With the advice from some here, I decided to add a salad for our BBQ Rehearsal Dinner. I just got a quote today for 80 guests and it came out to be $800. Is that reasonable for a side salad? My entire BBQ spread is $1200… $800 just for salad seems overly outrageous. It is a vegan dressing to...

My entire BBQ spread is $1200… $800 just for salad seems overly outrageous. It is a vegan dressing to accommodate the 1-3 vegans that will be there and that’s probably why there’s a premium.

Hmm I’m not sure but I could ask! The only “fresh prepared food” I’ve ever seen there is rotisserie but maybe there’s something I don’t know lol

Do you have access to a Costco? Get several heads of romaine, bottles of Caesar and cheese from the deli to make your own, if the venue allows it.

Most grocery stores and Costco have menus in their deli for party platters but you have to ask the worker behind the counter. They provide a wide range of options at a low price.

Unfortunately, we do not have a Costco. The closest big box place we have is a Walmart about 30 min away. It’s not very logistically friendly Smiley sad

We had a BBQ menu as well and I wish mine was that low in cost. Seriously.

Maybe your included drinks? This is just food without dessert. Dessert is an extra $500 so to $2000 and without drinks. Drinks is pay as you go for us and we just get a 10% discount so it just depends how much people drink.

No it did not include drinks we had an open bar. That price was only for food but we had an entirely large guest list of 243, so that’s why but it was good money spent I’m not mad at it.

Yes and to think the guest list started at 75. I had so much fun at my parents wedding. 😂

Maybe you could get boxed salads for each vegan? It's not ideal, but then they'll have something to eat. Walmart and the fast food places you mentioned I'm pretty sure all have single serving salads. You could also check your local grocery store.

That's my fall back at the moment. If I really can't find a place that will do just bulk Caesar salads, I plan on just forgoing the salads all together and just doing individual "premium salads" for my vegan and vegetarian folks from the place that quoted me an outrageous salad price lol. They are like $14-18 salads so it would be on par with the "per person" price I'm paying for the BBQ.

Be careful with Caesar salads. They generally have anchovies.

It's specifically a vegan salad place (which is why I think it has incredibly ridiculous prices). They actually do not have non-vegan salads lol

This was an extremely old post, but we ended up using a different company to provide the salad. We didn’t use a catering company to begin with so we had issues looking for staffing. The company we ended up with is a flexible small business. For about $400 more than just the $800 salad, we got Caesar salad, chicken wings, Mac n cheese, potato salad, and coleslaw added to our BBQ menu and 2 staffs. I also ended up just getting a specialty salad for my one vegan friend from the $800 salad place.
