Hi Brides! My wedding day is slowly approaching and I'm finalizing some last minute details for our major vendors. So far our menu includes cocktail hour; mini chicken and waffles and warm crab dip w/ tortilla chips. Dinner includes choice of salmon croquette or southern fried chicken (boneless) with garlic parm mashed potatoes, three cheese mac and cheese, asparagus, and dinner rolls. My question is ALL this food and plus the bar, do we really need a salad? I've been to weddings where if a salad was offered people only picked over it and some didn't even touch it. Are salads really necessary?

I think for aesthetics & dietary reasons a salad is a must. I think a salad is also nice to sit down to when you enter a reception. Sometimes cocktail hour food is overlooked, because it's hard to eat while mingling with people. So by the time you sit down, you're starving!

How many guests are you having and do you know them all really well, like their dietary restrictions? Even so I would offer a salad with the other choices you've listed so there's a lighter option. Those are all very greasy/heavy foods to have before dancing! On a plus, heavy foods absorb alcohol well!

I think it depends on what do your guest normally eat? Also it's really up to you and your future hubby on what y'all want to serve.....Good LuckSmiley ring

I love your menu! I totally got lucky because my uncle is a professional chef so I'd love to use some of your menu ideas as I really want southern food. My husband to be is Jamaican so we'll incorporate traditional Jerk chicken and plaintains as well.

All that said, I think most people pick over salad; especially if the caterer said so. If it's not too expensive, still add salad for those who don't eat meat or want a healthier option. My cousin got married and the entire menu was pork; pulled pork sandwiches and pork ribs. I liked the concept but was shocked because many don't eat pork, myself included. I wasn't able to enjoy her menu.

I’m vegan and usually the salad is the only thing I would be able eat at a function since everything else is either with meat, cheese, or butter. But I’ve learned to eat beforehand. Your menu sounds quite filling and enjoyable for your guests for your reception. I agree with a salad as a second vegetable option.
