Salon took measurements while i was in my wedding dress

Lauren, on November 18, 2021 at 11:29 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 7
I was told that the bridal salon should take measurements while I’m in undergarments. They measured me while I was wearing the wedding dress I purchased, however. Will this create any problems down the line ?

Nope, should be ok! I was measured at the counter in my street clothes, so I wouldn't worry too much.

Also, they usually measure to determine which size you're closest to, and go by the largest measurement. So, if your hips and waist is say, size 6 but your bust is size 8, they'd order you a size 8 and then you'd get the dress altered to fit the smaller parts of you.

Sounds like they were not trained correctly. I would skip that shop and look elsewhere. Taking measurements over the wedding dress will mean they pressure you into a much larger dress so they can make a killing on in-house alterations. Many of the dresses you try on are stretched out from being worn so much.

I would presume that they know what they’re doing and adjust based on the materials you’re wearing. I know I wasn’t in just undergarments when I was measured at the shop, but I don’t recall if i was back in street clothes or still in the sample dress when she measured. Her sizing was perfectly accurate.

Same! I can't remember if I was in the wedding dress or back in my street clothes, but I was definitely fully clothed!!

And like Rosie said - they take your largest measurement and order your dress to that size because it's much easier to take dresses in than it is to let them out if something is too tight!

I was never measured! Granted, I bought my dress at davids bridal. I bought the size up from my normal size because even though it was bigger, alterations ended up being easier than if it was closer to my size, if this makes sense AT all hahah

Ideally, they would measure next to skin (over undergarments), but unless the dress was very pouffy or structured, its not likely to make a significant difference since you will be having alterations done anyway. I wouldn't stress about it!
