Salt and Pepper shakers / sugar caddy on table??

KK2019, on June 8, 2018 at 11:45 PM Posted in Style and Décor 0 9
This kinda makes me feel like the most ridiculous person to be worrying about this... but I’m just going to ask anyway. Lol.

A girl who had her reception at my venue sent me photos of her tables and I loved them; then when we saw the venue in person they were setting up for a different wedding. Granted the in-person set up didn’t have decorations yet, but I can’t help but feel like the S&P shakers and sugar caddy will look tacky with my centerpieces/decor.

I was considering DIY’ing some shakers that were more decorative. What are your thoughts on this??

They do look insanely out of place lol I think it's bc they are green and stand out. Maybe pretty silver ones or black. Or some do it yourself ones like you said.

I’m going to do salt and pepper packets! Setting it up at the food table!! That way you don’t spend a lot on all of those shakers!

The green stands out in a bad way, but mostly because the bare space around them isn't doing them any favors. I don't think it would be too horrible next to the greenery in your centerpieces. I would just pick up some cheap ones from dollar tree if it really bothers you. I don't think it would be worth paying money for nicer ones. https://www.dollartree.com/Textured-Plastic-Salt-Pepper-Shaker-Sets/p298854/index.pro https://www.dollartree.com/Glass-Shaker-Jars-with-Handles-and-Metal-Lids/p360257/index.pro https://www.dollartree.com/Glass-Salt-and-Pepper-Shakers-2-ct-Sets/p346733/index.pro

Just ask the venue not to put them out and then people can ask the waiters for salt and pepper or sugar if they absolutely need it.

Tbh I have never seen shakers or super pre set out on a table at a wedding so this seems kind of odd all over to me. But just contact your coordinator and ask about options before going out and buying anything. Be aware if you want to change the shakers they have your might also be responsible for filling them all which might be way more hassle then such s small detail people are very unlikely to notice is worth.

Ask what other options your venue had. Many banquet venues have tiny little glass shakers on the table and will bring out sugar cubes with cream pitchers during coffee service. Don't skip it and force your guests to ask for staples like salt and pepper. If they only have what is shown in the picture, figure out a way to blend it in, without obscuring them. I doubt they would be willing to work with anything you provide since catering will need to be certain all food items are safe.

Thanks for all of the input everyone!!

We are doing plated dinner so I don’t really have the option of setting them on a food table. I don’t want to leave them off entirely because I know I always use salt and pepper and I wouldn’t want to have to ask for it. I was looking at the dollar tree ones and I would be totally fine with that... it’s definitely just the green grinders I don’t like.

The photos with greenery aren’t my set up, those are what my gf did. We are just doing lanterns filled with flowers and tea light candles... so the grinders wouldn’t really blend in at all. I didn’t consider that they may not let me because of food safety... they’re letting us bring in our own cake so wouldn’t that kinda be the same thing ? I guess it doesn’t help to ask tho to be sure.

I can’t believe wedding planning has turned me into the kinda person that worries about such things 😫😂

Lots of venues let you bring in a cake bc they don’t provide it. So that’s a little different bc you’re still getting that from another vendor/baker that can be referred to if there any health/safety issues as it would be under that vendors responsibility

the salt/pepper shakers would be an issue bc they probably wouldn’t want to fill them when they already have ones they use and even if you offer to fill them they might not let you bring them in bc they cannot guarantee what’s in them. It’s a liability issue.

TBH you shouldn’t need salt and pepper if the food is good and well seasoned. I rarely use it unless the food is seriously under seasoned so I don’t think leaving it off should be a problem (it’s actually considered bad taste to season at a nice place bc the chef should know what they’re doing) but if you feel like you need it just ask if thy have other shakers or what they can offer. I don’t think anyone will notice personally or care. But if it bugs to just ask.
