Same day weddings

Miss2Mrs2020, on June 24, 2020 at 4:09 PM Posted in Planning 0 8
Are there any other states that do same day weddings? Like already boxes and decorated like Vegas? Perhaps on the east coast...

I’m afraid to put money down now considering we don’t know when COVID will tamp back up...

I would imagine it’s the same on the east coast, but I know there are several wedding planners in Colorado that do full elopement packages for a set price: flowers, photography, officiant, transportation... I’d just start researching in the location you want.

    *I hit reply by accident...
I don't know of any Vegas-like places to get married on the east coast, but I think that might actually be harder than just planning something simple and asking each vendor for a back-up plan in case there's another COVID spike. Boston City Hall does weddings, but they've been stopped indefinitely and it took us 3 weeks of being on a waiting list just to be able to make an appointment to get a marriage license. Do you have any idea of what you want? (Number of people, style, etc.) Or do you just want to avoid the feeling of disappointment if things have to change?

There are tons of vendors everywhere that do elopement packages which cover several elements (bouquet, officiant, 1 hour photography, etc) - but they would still need to be scheduled ahead of time.

My bet it is that even in Vegas right now you have to schedule ahead in some way! It's much more difficult to serve drop-ins with social distancing guidelines!

Part of it is a concern of the CDC standards changing and having to cancel/reschedule AGAIN...

I want something less risky...but still want our beautiful day.

Do you have a yard that's big enough to host the people who are most important to you? Or could you borrow one? Or can you find one on Airbnb? We're getting married at my parents' house this year because, thanks to COVID, we had to postpone the wedding we had originally planned to next year, but I feel like what we're doing is actually pretty nice and could work for an intentionally small wedding, too. Here's a summary:

We rented a tent to put in the back yard and we'll probably put up lighting. It's white and looks like it fits in a garden (as opposed to a yard sale, in case that's what you were picturing). We also rented small tables so each table will only have 2-3 people to allow for social distancing. My dad is building an arch that our florist will cover with flowers and greenery, we'll have centerpieces on every table, everyone will have a boutonnière, corsage, or bouquet, and there is even going to be a small floral arrangement in the bathroom. Masks will be required, so I made one for everyone which means that they'll all coordinate in the pictures. We will have a photographer to document the day. For catering, we're doing heavy appetizers "in attractive individual containers" because we wanted something that was "COVID friendly" and this way we don't have to have any staff to serve the food, but also no one will be touching any one else's food. An ice cream truck is coming for dessert.

Would you consider doing something like that? We were able to hire everyone we needed two months ahead of time, and in the time of coronavirus you could probably do it with even less notice. If you're having the event at a private residence, even if there are severe restrictions, you would probably still be able to have it.
