Sam’s Club Eucalyptus?

Alisha, on August 29, 2018 at 3:52 PM Posted in Do It Yourself 1 8
Has anyone had any experience with ordering greenery from Sam’s Club? I was planning to order either seeded or silver dollar eucalyptus for my centerpieces. Here is a picture of what my centerpieces look like currently, and an idea of how I would arrange the eucalyptus (without the wood). I’m expecting to have around 25 tables, and any leftovers will go on the cake table, our table, etc.

How many bunches of 40 stems should I order? Will it wilt if we decorate the night before, or should it be done the morning of?

I don't have experience with ordering greenery from Sam's Club but other brides have posted very positive experiences they have had. However, my florist created garlands for my wedding and I can say from personal experience they actually lasted a long time - 2 weeks after the wedding - with no maintenance. So I don't think you need to worry about them wilting overnight. I even had a lot of flowers in my garlands and they also lasted 2 weeks after the wedding.

If I may make a suggestion: I like your centerpieces so much more without the wine bottle. The lantern and the wine bottle don't seem to go together either in style or in color.

Here's a pic of the garlands my florist created. They included eucalyptus.

I honestly wasn’t sure that I liked the wine bottle in it either! FH did, but I’m thinking we could compromise and use them elsewhere. (Plus then, we won’t have to clean and peel 25-30 wine bottles, cause I have better ways to spend my time!)

Yes, exactly! Plus, the greenery with those lanterns and votives will make for stunningly simple centerpieces similar to your inspiration pic.

FH is so easy going. Smiley smile Now we just have to decide if the lights or the candle looks better!

Candles! You can never go wrong with candles. And then it will be easy to set up too.

Florist here... I would not do the wine bottle or string lights. I would do five simple votive holders around the lantern and if the budget allows, a different size or shape candle holder inside the lantern. For the eucalyptus, normally it comes in pretty full bunches with long stems that have branches that would be cut smaller. Depending on the size of the stem, you could cut up one or two per table BUT I would never count on that if it were a wedding I was doing. I always like to over order greenery for weddings. I would order three, four or more of the 40 stem quantity to be sure you have enough to make a full pretty look everywhere. It would look pretty to mix the two types you mentioned as well. As far as putting it out the day before. I had a customer DIY a look very similar to your inspiration photo and it looked awful. They had no clue how to cut the stems and where to cut the stems and it turned out nothing like the sample. Also, they did this on a Friday late afternoon and even though I had all the greenery well hydrated, it all dried out and looked sad when I went back to the venue to decorate the cake right before the reception. The good news, eucalyptus does not look awful when it dries out but if the venue is inside and the heat is on, it will dry out fast. One last bit, be sure to have strong clippers with you, scissors will not be enough for some of the thicker stems and bring gloves for everyone that is going to work with it. Some people are allergic and it stains your hands and around your fingernails. It also stains clothing!!

I agree about the candles. And I have a question. Can you elaborate on how your client messed up? How did they cut the Eucalyptus wrong and what is the correct method?

Did you end up getting this? I am thinking the same thing from Sam’s Club with a mixture of silver dollar and seeded. I also will have approx. 25 tables, so am wondering how much you ordered?
