Sam's Club or Walmart cake

Cakes bought from traditional cake makers are so expensive. I was thinking of going to Sam's or Walmart. The thing is, I'm not sure how much extra they will do to the cake as far as decoration. They also don't deliver. Any suggestions on getting an inexpensive cake like the one in the picture? I...

Check publix if you have one in your area. We are having a cake and cupcakes from them for our wedding and they're not all that expensive.

Try wegmans if you have one near you! They bake everything in house and have great options.

I'm not sure where you live but I know that super markets like Albertsons or Ralph's make wedding cakes.

Our local grocery store, Giant, does tiered cakes. I'd bring a picture of what you want and check out local grocery stores.

Partly for the sake of cost, we've decided to have 3 or 4 one-tier cakes. They'll be easier to decorate and transport, and we don't have to decide on just one flavor or style.

I also have a friend who is ordering a small, fancy cake and a sheet cake for the sake of cost.

People eat it, trust me. If it's good. I wouldn't waste the calories on a grocery store cake.

And none of your guests will complain. To your face.

I'd be very nervous transporting a tiered cake....stop quickly in traffic, and it ends up on your back seats! Hot day = melted. The delivery price is well worth it.

I try to eat clean, and frankly, have you looked at the ingredients on the cakes at the grocery stores? Not the ones that do their own baking, but one day, my hubby wanted a slice of cake, so I thought I would just buy him a slice from the bakery of the local grocery store. Ewww. FULL of preservatives and things I couldn't pronounce.

Personally, check out the prices for three indie bakers. Maybe have the cake be simple, to cut back on cost. Maybe do cupcakes! You never know, it might be in your price range.

As a guest - I always look forward to the cake!

You can get a pretty two tier cake from a pro baker, and then get sheet cakes for your guests. The sheet cakes will be sliced up in the kitchen for your guests. They will never see it.

I got a cake from Sam's for my emergency mini wedding, it was $85 and was actually pretty good. Served its purpose but very simple decorations. You can always get silk or extra real flowers to jazz it up a bit. The cake came with 3 flowers and we added our topper. It was for 15 people so we had tons left but it gave my father the chance to see as much of a wedding as possible. He loved it Smiley smile

@michelle believe it or not, most cakes are frozen at some point even at bakeries and you would never know it.

As others have said, transporting tiered cakes is trickier than it looks. Spend the extra money and have someone do all the work for you. (And get a better tasting product.)

We got our cakes from Sam's Club and everyone said they were delicious. We just had a small 2 tier cake for us to cut and then 2 sheet cakes for everyone else. It was economical and yummy so it was not a decision we regretted one bit.

What about a small, decorated cutting cake for pictures and then a sheet cake? Whole Foods has an amazing buttercream and I think it's only $120 to feed 100.

OP, your pic is a basic three tier white wedding cake. All of those flowers are probably real (or good quality silks), That would be something your florist would handle for you. We do for about 60% of our clients.

Secondly, whatever you do, do not deal with any store bakery that does not deliver. The last thing you want to do is try to get a wedding cake to the venue yourselves. Have you spoken to your venue -- many times, they have bakers that they use. I think we paid about $375 for my daughter's three tier cake, and we were given quite a few flavor and design options.
