Sandals Resorts - Worth it or not?

Emily, on August 21, 2016 at 6:13 AM Posted in Honeymoon 0 16

Hey guys,

My fiance and I are trying to decide on a honeymoon destination. Everyone recommends sandals resorts. We were looking into Barbados, Jamaica, or the Virgin Islands. Sandals resorts can get pretty pricey so I was just wondering if they are worth it or just book an adult only all inclusive resort other than a sandals?? Thanks for your help in advance!

We're going to a Couples resort in Jamaica. It's significantly less expensive and included more excursions. Reviews rated it higher than Sandals on most of the travel sites we looked at. From what we read, they have less of a party atmosphere, which was a huge selling point for us, too.

We were going to book at a Sandals resort but our travel agent suggested Secrets! It's a lot cheaper! For Sandals, you are basically paying for the name but they do have great service. But Secrets is basically the same thing but cheaper. We're going to Rivera Maya Cancun in May 2017 and for all inclusive, adults only resort it is $3000 total for both of us including flights and everything. I would check them out.

We are fans of the Couples properties, but they do not accommodate kids and are in fact, meant for couples. That being the case, if there are kids or singles attending, Couples won't be a good choice for all of your guests. We just got married in St. Croix which was amazing... Renaissance Carambola has a walk up beach, STX Weddings was our wonderful DW planner!

I hope so! We booked Sandals St. Lucia. When we booked (which was awhile ago) they had pricing starting at like $2500ish for a week which I thought was great. We ended up spending about $5500 but we sprung for a butler level suite with a private pool and everything. But I've heard great things, even though I don't have personal experience yet.

We absolutely loved our honeymoon to Sandals Royal Bahamian. We loved that it was adults only, all inclusive, and had a ton of activities to choose from. We bought our honeymoon during a 65% off sale and it wasn't super expensive. I highly recommend it and wait for a sale. They had several during our engagement.

When considering Sandals, it's important to remember that unless you're in either a club or butler level room, you won't have booze in your mini-bar and you can't use room service! So you have to book the higher category rooms in order to have a lot of things that come with all room categories at most other resorts.

We had thought about Sandals but some of our friends said the food wasn't that great. We have heard a lot of mixed reviews from our friends who have gone. Most of them are nitpicky so I guess it depends on how laid back you are. We aren't huge fans of beachy type vacas so we picked somewhere else. Smiley smile

We did Sandals Royal Caribbean in Jamaica. We also booked during one of their 65% off sales, which seem to occur pretty often. It was amazing! In terms of whether it was "worth it," we just loved the fact that once we booked that and flights, we had to worry about literally nothing. We showed up, ate, drank, relaxed, and had a great time.

Secrets resorts are nice too! Many good deals out there. I don't know much about booking stuff so I had help from a travel agent but she really stayed within what we were looking for and all of our options were amazing!

I do not recommend Barbados. I went a few years ago and there isn't a lot to do. The undercurrent in the ocean is really strong so you can't do much snorkeling. The city area is very very poor and there weren't a lot of nice restaurants. A lot of ruble and dilapidated homes.

I think they are definitely worth it! We went to Sandal Ochi Beach Resort in Jamaica in June and already booked to go back on our anniversary. It is so nice to have the all inclusive and not have to worry about anything. They do not even allow you to tip. Everyone is so friendly and helpful, and they truly are beautiful. They have good sales a lot online, that is how we booked. Ochi was one of the cheaper Sandals resorts, but you would never be able to tell.
