Satin in the summer

Jordan, on May 31, 2016 at 8:01 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 16

Hello loves! I have already chosen my wedding dress, a beautiful allure satin mermaid dress, and I fell in love. However, my wedding date is now possibly getting pushed from spring to summer, and I have no idea if satin during the summer is a bad idea? ceremony would most likely be in the evening before sunset so we can take some pictures afterwards, but I feel alone on this situation. Did I choose the wrong fabric? I love my dress (and i cannot return it) so if a satin wedding dress for summer is a bad idea I may just push it back to fall even though i really dont want to do that... any and all imput welcome. TIA!

I think you should wear it if it's "the dress" regardless. Will the reception be outside too? Maybe get a lighter reception dress, if so.

Thanks Cathy and Jalisa. I am in need of some serious reassurance. My wedding will be indoor/outdoor. With the ceremony taking place outside most likely then the reception being both indoor and outdoor on the patio. I wanted to avoid getting a seperate reception dress one because I love my wedding dress and I want to spend as much time in it as possible, and two because I want to save money where I can to be able to splurge on the higher priced items such as a photographer, venue, food etc.

^ that sounds like Arizona, @Jaci!

@Jordan, I wore a satin ball gown as a BM for a Texas wedding in July. It was kind of heavy, but my real problem was with the layers of itchy tulle. It was bearable, but not ideal. That wedding took place in the afternoon. Sounds like yours will be later in the day, so maybe it won't be quite as bad?

Samantha, luckily mine has a lining between the tulle and my body! I am hoping that since it will be somewhat later in the day that itll be cooler but here in GA the heat is unpredictable. Thanks for commenting!

Mine is satin also doing a June out door ceremony in Wisconsin who knows it might be cold that day up here. The dress just looked perfect on me.

Mine was satin for a fall outdoor wedding. Should have been 80, TOPS-- turned out to be over 100! Those poor groomsmen-- outdoor, in black suits-- it's not THEIR wedding, they're not deliriously happy....

Anyway, I didn't notice the heat at *all* until my dad put the veil back down after giving me a kiss, just before the (blessedly quick) ceremony.

If you love the dress, keep your date and wear it. As long as your reception is inside, I can almost guarantee the amount of time you'll actually be aware of the heat will be minimal.

I'm having a satin A-line. It's going to be on the beach but I'm hoping the cool air coming off the shore will be enough for me to survive.

Try researching fabrics you could wear underneath to keep you feeling cooler, or absorb sweat so it doesnt show thru your dress. I know there are armpit pads you can wear that soak up sweat.

@Zoe, thanks for commenting! I don't sweat a lot in heat, so I am hoping this stays true on that day. I am completely happy with my dress I just had a mental breakdown and started worrying myself about if I chose the right dress or not. I am hoping this doesn't happen again! I assume second guessing your choice of dress is normal for brides?

@Katherine I will have to try doing that, Thanks! I won't be able to use armpit pads however due to the top of the dress design but I am not worried as much about sweating with the dress, just more worried with the overall look of a satin dress in a summer wedding, I was reading a blog that said satin is more for winter or spring weddings so it freaked me out a little bit. But I am more confident with my decision now after getting everyones feedback.

MAJOR EDIT: I just looked and my dress is actually taffeta, not satin... The lady in the bridal shop told me it was satin, but the designer has it listed as taffeta, so I shouldn't have too much to be worried about, they say taffeta is lighter and breathes more than satin, so I shouldnt have to worry about heat or creasing right?

I had a taffeta mermaid and it was perfect for summer! I mean, it was still hot outside lol but it held up well in the heat and I didn't feel like I was melting!
