Satin verses polyester tablecloths????

MOTG Clayton & Shelby, on July 29, 2014 at 3:02 PM Posted in Style and Décor 0 13

What do you think will be better to use on reception round dinning tables? Satin or polyester, and why?

It would be up to the theme of the wedding. Satin, to me, is elegant. Polyester is more durable and simple and you can use overlays to dress it up or not. My daughter is using polyester because we are borrowing them. If we had to buy, we would still use polyester.

I wouldn't care so long as they aren't a textured fabric. I hate having to balance my wine glass on a table cloth that has puffy flowers or swirls on it.

If your decor is simple, I would go with satin since it will bring a lot to the room. But if you have lots of decor, I'd go cheaper with the polyester.

Are they different prices? Whatever is cheaper. Guests won't care/notice.

Are you going with look? I agree Satin is more elegant.

Will there be kids at the wedding? My experience with Satin is more "slippery." It kind of slides along the table. It can be a real pain in the butt sometimes. Adults can handle it ... but kids might decide to play with it.

We are doing poly all the way. There was a $20/cloth difference from our rental company. We have awesome runners to put over them anyway.

eta: I personally don't like satin - very slippery...especially chair covers!! LOL

I used satin since they were the same price as polyester at my venue.

We decided to go with poly and use poly overlays. It went better with my backyard wedding than satin. Plus, I'm not really a fan of satin. Too shiny and slippery!!

My personal preference is poly. I like a soft, romantic look to everything and satin just doesn't fit the bill to me.

I prefer polyester. Satin's too shiny.

I didn't even know people did satin-that sounds crazy expensive! I thought they were all poly at this point in time. I sure can't/haven't noticed a difference.

Our venue is a barn type building, it's beautiful but we are going with elegant. Elegant country. Girls won't be wearing cowboy boots but the guy will be and with hats. There is a little difference in price but after reading all the advice I think poly is the way we will go. Just sounds better all the way around.

Thank y'all for your opinions! It really helps!

Satin can be polyester fabric. Satin refers to the type of weave which gives it its shiny texture. So you either want satin polyester (Nylon or silk) or regular polyester.

Sorry to sound like a nerd lol. Just some FYI for ya! Smiley laugh

I don't like anything satin - it looks cheap and overly shiny. We opted for champagne colored poly tablecloths and lace overlays.

Satin does look really shiny. I'm going for a romantic/elegant feel with just a touch of country. Satin might be too shiny with the burlap runners we are using but where I found the tablecloths, it was half the price compared to polyester. Hopefully it turns out!
