I got my Save the Dates from Vistaprint (they were magnets though). They weren't expensive, you can send them around 6-8 months before the wedding and about a year out if its a destination wedding.

I got postcard-style save the dates from Minted and sent them out 6-7 months in advance. Agreed with Yasmine about timing - sending 6-8 months before is ideal, or 1 year if it's a destination or holiday.

We got out save the dates, and the rest of our wedding stationary actually, through MagnetStreet, which, after hours of research, was one of the most affordable, yet high quality options I found: https://www.magnetstreet.com/wedding-save-the-dates

In terms of sending out the save the dates, anywhere between 6-12 months prior to your wedding day is good. Personally, I think around 9 months is the perfect amount of time, because you don’t want to be so early that people forget, or too late that people can’t make it.
