Save the date info

Sara, on August 6, 2019 at 10:38 AM Posted in Planning 0 9
I know I’ve seen this discussion before but trying to recall if I should include any info on hotel block on the save the dates. The thing is I technically don’t have the complete info yet. We’re getting married in a small town and the two best hotels both told me to call back in January for hotel blocks for April (so I’m hoping that’s accurate) I want to get my save the dates sent out soon since my side of the family will be traveling 2-3 hours either the night before or day of. Thanks in advance!

Hotel block info isn't usually included in the save the date. If anything, include your wedding website and update that with hotel info when you have it.

Because your guests will be traveling a significant distance, I would absolutely include an "Accommodations" card with your save-the-dates. Our wedding is technically a "destination" wedding for nearly all of our guests as well, so we sent out our STDs in early Dec. (about 9 months prior) w/a separate card that included all of the details of our hotel block. We also included our website on our STDs as a way to provide our guests with continual updates early on, being that we were still so far out at the time.

    Hope this helps!

We did! We included a small business card sized insert with our main hotel block. We anticipated around 30 rooms (we ended up with 46) and had a ton of out of state guests so we knew they would want to book early. Before our invites went out, we had 20 rooms booked. I would personally appreciate the information if we were traveling to a wedding! But if it's on your website and you list your website, I think that's also fine.

I don't think you need to. If you want to get the save the dates sent out, and still iron out hotel details later, just list your website. You could even say something like "please keep an eye on our website for accommodations and other details". And then make sure you have a spot for that on your website, even if it just says details coming soon.

I wouldn't, especially if you don't have your block formally set up yet. My cousin did this on her STDs and the hotel rooms were blocked within days. This led to some guests, including myself, not being able to book anything until they had a better idea of their travel plans when the invitations went out.

It was important for me to nail down hotel/block info before save the dates as I felt the purpose of the save the dates was to help people create a plan for travel. We didn’t do an accommodations card though — simply a link to our website which had all that info on it.
The hotels not dealing with blocking until 4 months before the event seems really odd to me, tbh. If I were you, I’d push to get them to nail something down earlier, as I’d worry about availability decreasing by then. We established our blocks probably at least about 10 months before the wedding. Also, many people went ahead and booked their hotels after receiving save the dates (before invites had gone out).

We just directed people to our website for the STDs. I had the block set up when they were sent but provide the link until invites went out. I didnt want people excitedly booking, then not coming and using up space for people actually coming.

At the suggestion of our venue coordinator, we included an accommodations card with our save the dates..but we were also able to get a block at a local hotel set up before they were sent.

Thank you all for your input! I too thought that it was odd that both hotels told me that so I’m requesting to speak to managers/owners just to be sure. I also understand about the fast booking too. I think I’ll just let everyone know that accommodations will be on the website if I don’t find anything new out by the time we need to order which is pretty much now!
