Save the Date Magnets Postage

WeddingBliss, on January 26, 2019 at 6:06 PM Posted in Planning 5 38
FYI - sadly I learned this the hard way, but magnet save the date postage requires a $0.71 post stamp (one forever & one postcard stamp, or 1x 2 oz stamp) even if the weight is under an oz.

Thanks for the information I was actually thinking about magnets since people tend to use them more.

My Vistaprint magnets only needed one stamp! Must be a little lighter.

To be fair - I took my save the dates to the post office & asked for it to be hand stamped & the guy told me that extra postage was needed. He said usually 60% of the time the magnetic Save the Dates are returned because of postage. I didn’t want to take a chance, so I added extra postage. But I got into a lengthy conversation & he completely explained the process.

We did Minted magnet save the dates and used a regular stamp. We had no issues and none of them were returned to us.

Interesting. We had none returned. And we even had a thick piece of paper behind the magnet save the dates. All went out with a regular stamp.

We had VistaPrint magnet save the dates. All were sent with a regular stamp. I verified with the post office before sending. They said it only took a regular stamp because they weren’t rigid.

Mine cost me $.90 per save the date bc they were over 1 oz AND non-machinable so that was an extra $.20...since they are a magnet they can’t go through the machine

Mine was under 1 oz - they were from Carson Craft (which I will recommend), but they were rigid. Sorry for causing any confusion, I was shocked when they said that I needed more postage (they were rigid, but under the oz), that’s when I spoke to the guy about the postage & it looked it up online.

Based on my experience I truly thought it applied to every magnet save the date - and wanted to give a heads up. However it sounds like it definitely is a gray area, so perhaps something to be aware of. If I would have known I would have used the $0.71 stamp instead of 2x forever stamps (which was too much but the $0.21 stamp was hats & didn’t match my other stamps).

Lol I really put a lot of thought into envelopes - you know, something that people open & throw right away.

We used Vistaprint magnet Save the Dates and I only needed regular postage. I would double check this through the post office's website before you shell out the money for extra stamps.

I just almost cried at the post office while a lady tried to tell me I could only use YELLOW BUTTERFLY stamps. We are sending our save that dates with our holiday cards so this was very off theme. I instead went and purchased 70 cent stamps from the self serve kiosk which print as tiny mailing labels (ugly, but not yellow butterflies). I go back to a different cashier to ensure I was going to put them on correctly. She looked at my envelopes, weighed them, and then gives me apologetic eyes, slyly processes a return (we were next to butterfly lady), and sells me normal winter berry forever stamps.

Cliff notes: I sent a 5X7 holiday card, with a magnet save the date, one stamp each. BUT, it was a process and a half.

So are magnets something that we could use a plain forever stamp on? We just used magnetstreet.com for our Save the dates and reading these makes me nervous. I wanted to try and buy all our postage at once including for our invites/rsvps too to get ahead moneywise.

I think we'll be good based off reading this thread. The ladies that bought from Vista Print said theirs were flexible, and so could go through regular mail not have to be hand canceled, and the mangetstreet mangets are pretty flexible in my opinion.

I just ordered my save the dates from magnetstreet.com as well and didn't even think about postage until finding this thread. I ordered the 4"x5.5" magnets. Any updates? Were you able to use regular postage? TIA!!

I had no problems using just a single forever stamp! I even included a folded Christmas card in the envelope with the magnet.
