Save the Date Ornaments?

MrsO, on December 6, 2011 at 6:12 PM Posted in Planning 0 14

As I've mentioned in previous posts, I have been fighting myself over Save The Date designs. I make something and love it one day and then hate it the next. I have designed regular ones. I just designed Christmas cards to double as Save the Dates. However, whenever I return to them, I just don't love them.

I figured sending them out as Christmas cards would be the best route at this point (I need to get something out asap since our date is in May) and kill two birds with one stone, however now I have the idea of handcrafting ornaments (small, flat, easy to mail) as our save the dates. We are having a generally smaller wedding so the amount I would need to make isn't completely absurd and I'm kinda in love with the idea. Most people probably throw away Save the Dates so at least these might get a little bit of use/display before they hit the trashcan.

Does anyone have any ideas for designs or seen this done before?

I was in Dollar Tree the other day, and they had cool flat ornaments that I'm sure you could write on.

I'll have to check out our local dollar tree, Celia. Thanks for the suggestion.

I'm kinda leaning towards a burnt wood ornament. Similar to this but a hole drilled in it and tied up with ribbon to make it an ornament and not a magnet

I really like that idea! I think the wood burned would be lovely. You can also check out places like Zazzle as I am pretty sure they do custom ornaments.

I love the burnt wood one! I think that's a great idea, and people will probably save them! At least the people closest to you.

Honestly i think you are stressing over this too much. people are not going to be majorly judgy over a save the date. anything you come up with your guest will like. i would worry more about the invitations, but the xmas card idea or the ornament sounds like a great idea.

What about a photo ornament that you can add save the date info in the text portion?

They have several design choices at www.tinyprints.com

Heather, you are right. I am stressing myself out too much over the save the dates. I'm completely aware of this. It is just how I am. I am so anal and particular (and indecisive) over everything!

Dana, the main problem that I have had is that my FH and I don't have any good photos together. I am always behind the camera, never in front, and I am so picky as far as photography I wouldn't be willing to put just any snapshot on a card/ornament.

I am pretty sure I have fallen completely in love with the burnt wood ornament idea though (and I'll probably add a tag to the ribbon with a few extra words/details). So much that I dragged my FH out to Michael's tonight with me to buy a wood burner. They were majorly lacking on heart stock so I grabbed a small 4 pack for now to test and play with and I'll order the rest online. So yay for my save the date indecisiveness being cured (as long as I don't wake up in the morning and hate it haha).

Good luck, F Mrs. Ohler. I hope it works out. I think the burnt wood ones are a great idea, and definitely perfect timing for an ornament!

I think that's an adorable idea!

We did Save the Date CDs. Some people listened to them and loved them, some people didn't, but we had fun making them. Smiley smile And the main point is that people have the date, location and our website info, and they know they're getting an invite.

Don't stress. I love the burnt wood hearts. Especially with a holiday-color ribbon at the top for hanging. Adorable!

I f you decide against the wood burning, groupon has a coupon for dazzle ornaments. And it looks like you don't need a photo.

Hopefully, they won't pack it away when they take down their tree!
