Save The Date Postcards.. Envelope or no?

Tatum, on October 6, 2020 at 4:29 PM Posted in Community Conversations 1 9

I am going back and forth between a traditional save the date mailed in an envelope or a postcard. I honestly like the post card option more... but now I need to decide whether or not to mail them like a postcard or mail them in an envelope to protect them. It is obviously cheaper to just mail them as a post card, but I also don't want them to be ruined in the mail. Putting them in an envelope seems to defeat the purpose of a post card though.. Any experiences or thoughts?

Also I am getting married the week before Christmas 2021, when should I send them out to ensure people can take off work to travel or to make sure they don't plan other parties or holiday celebrations?

I would probably do without. Less paper waste.

I mailed out post cards to announce that we moved. One kept on getting delivered back to us, they finally delivered it after like 3 weeks. And some of them got scratched up. I just had them printed at Staples on card stock so they weren’t fancy.
I’d put them in envelopes if you’re worried about them getting ruined or making it to their recipients.

We did postcard save the day announcements, bridal shower, engagement party, wedding, and thank yous! It saved so much paper which I love being eco-friendly and stamps are cheaper.
Also, every single person received all of them and they were in great condition when they showed up. No issues with ours. And we sent probably a total of 500 postcards for all of our events.

We were initially going to do postcard save the dates and then switched to double sided in an envelope. Primarily because we didn’t want the postcards to get damaged (very common!) and it wasn’t that much more for envelopes & postage.

We did postcards to save money and while I don't regret it we did have some get damage in the mail. My mom reported hers getting a little scratched up and his mom's actually arrived with the word "date" fully scratched off. I'm sure other people's had damage or were bent as well. Our postcards were glossy (not intentionally, I was surprised when they arrived that way) and that may have contributed.

Postcards don't need envelopes. However, I have received a postcard save the date and it was ripped on one side and had ink marks all over it. Not saying that happens all of the time, but I can definitely say it does happen. For this reason, we chose regular save the dates with envelopes.

I would personally do envelopes. I’ve received more than one save the date postcard that has been ripped, torn, and had markings on it.
