My FH and I are debating on sending out save the dates. We are trying to save as much money without being crazy cheap. Our date is October 8 and we’ve had a lot of family members talking with people so most people know our dates expect for a few family members from out of town. What have your experiences been with sending out save the dates versus not sending them out??

We're doing the same thing. Especially the ones we know will be coming in from out of town who do need to make travel arrangements.

It’s really up to you personally whether you want to send them out or not, however it is customary for people to do so, and they aren’t as pointless as they may seem. Save the date cards are different from invitations in that they are sent out much earlier, so that your guests don’t make other plans already and have to miss your wedding. Like others have said, you can send out evites for save the dates, however we didn’t want to do that, and luckily we found really cheap ones through Magnet Street: https://www.magnetstreet.com/shop/save-the-dates

While evites are practically free, there are a lot of people that either aren’t tech-savvy or don’t check their email often, so we were afraid that they might get “lost” in someone’s inbox. We also have a lot of older people that we invited, who barely know how to turn on the computer, so sending out physical cards was the right decision.
