Save the date timeline

Ambyre, on June 2, 2023 at 12:51 PM Posted in Planning 1 4
Hi! My wedding is 4/20/24. I noticed on the wedding wire app it says to create/send save the dates in JULY but then in SEPT it says “finalize guest list” soooo, I’m confused haha. Any insight would be helpful! Also july seems a bit early for save the dates for an April wedding, no?

Yeah, that is incredibly backwards. You need to have your guest list finalized before sending out save the dates. However, July is definitely not too early to send out STDs. Usually people send them anywhere from 6 mos to a year out.

That’s what I thought!! So not sure what to do when this is what the timeline is on the app haha. But got it that it’s not too early! Thank you for that.

I'm getting married a month after you and I'm sending the Save the Dates out this week.

I have a lot of out of town guests, so we want to give them plenty of notice.

And like the other commenter said... you definitely need the completed list ASAP so you can send the Save the Dates, so just ignore the timeline (or change it, which I believe you can do).

Hi and congratulations, as far as the save the dates, it really does depend on your venue because each venue needs their final head count at their own specific times. i did't want to send my save the dates to early because wedding invitations are to follow the save the dates in a few months or so.

i'll give you my scenario. My wedding day is October 7, 2023. i booked my venue and this date way back in October of 2021 because their were no dates in the fall of 2022 because of Covid, of course. If i had sent my save the dates out according to proper wedding etiquette, my save the dates would have been sent out almost 1 year and half early. by then people would've forgotten about us.

so, my venue requires my full guest count 1 month before my wedding which would be September 7, 2023. so i sent out save the dates in January, after Christmas and new year's and i sent out my invitations June 1st and i requested my RSVP By August 15 2023. that gives plenty of time for the people who may respond late and plenty of time for me to reach out to those late responses and plenty of time for me to make my September 7th dead line. I hope this information helps
