Save the Dates / Invitations

Corinne, on February 3, 2022 at 11:21 AM Posted in Planning 1 9

Hello everyone!

I'm getting married on May 28, 2022 and let's just say that while I'm doing my best to keep up with planning, I'm behind on a few things Smiley winking

We have not sent out Save the Dates yet and I feel like it's almost too late to send them, but also too early to just send out invitations. Does anyone have any thoughts / advice?

I would send out Invitations now. Since you didn’t do save the dates, I don’t think it’s too early. We’ve already sent our for our May 7 date.

I would say skip the save the dates or just send a text/email one at this point. I'm getting married in September and sent my save the dates a couple weeks ago. You're getting close to sending out invites, so I'd just wait to send those.

This is of course completely up to you and whether you really have your heart set on doing STDs. If not, I would probably just save the money and not do them at this point; since your Invitations will be going out within 2 months. If you really want to do STDs though, I would send them out ASAP.

Thank you all for the responses!

I will just work on getting my invitations out. I'm happy to save the money!

I would still send save-the-dates. You can do it via email to make sure they get out ASAP. Or do it the old fashioned way, with a phone call letting people know the date and maybe some nearby hotels 🙂

Save the dates can be sent via phone call, text or email at no cost to you as soon as you book your venue until 6 months before the wedding. Invitations are sent 6-8 weeks before the wedding standard. If you send them earlier, people will lose and forget the information. If you send them after 6 weeks, people will think they are afterthoughts you don’t want in attendance.

Getting married the same day as you! I sent save the dates back in late summer since it’s a holiday weekend. You could create a wedding website and share the link with those you plan to invite. Just a thought

First of all, congratulations on your engagement, and late May weddings are my favorite, so I just know that it is going to be spectacular. Now as for your question, I also definitely think that it is too late to send out save the dates, especially since you’ll need to start sending out invitations next month. According to this stationary timeline, save the dates should be sent out 6-12 months prior, and invitations 6-8 weeks: https://www.magnetstreet.com/wedding-stationery-timeline

Like others have said, even though sending out physical save the dates would be ideal, there’s nothing wrong with sending out a text, email, or e-vite in your situation. Someone also mentioned doing old fashioned phone calls, which is a great way to not only make sure people get the impromptu save the date, but also tell them to their face, which is a nice gesture that will be appreciated by your guests.

Thank you all for your comments and suggestions! Since our guest list is about 50, it was pretty easy to text and call everyone to “save the date”. And I finally ordered my invitations!
