Situational necessity. i think its good for destination and out of state weddings. other than that i don't feel they are necessary.

We didn’t actually send save the dates partially because it took a while to actually pick a date and we still haven’t gotten our engagement pictures done. I would much rather send a picture save the date than one without a picture. So absolutely necessary? Only if it’s a destination wedding.

We are sending out save the date cards because people have busy schedules these days.

This can save you from the engagement party... but word of mouth is good too.. this is also a preference.. we didn't use them.

I don't think this is necessary either unless you have a lot of out of state family/friends... which my FH does. The only family he has nearby are his parents and 3 brothers... so, we have a LOT of out of state guests and we wanted to give people a good heads up for planning. To save money I ordered my save the dates from Vistaprint during their annual black Friday sale and saved 60%!

I feel like they are! A lot of people may forget if you mention your wedding date during a conversation; the save the date is a physical reminder for them. They are even more necessary if you are having a lot of out of town guests or are having a destination wedding.

Definitely! So they can save the date and not be caught off guard by sudden news. 😍

They’re necessary if you have guests coming from overseas

I'm not doing them even though about half of our guests are coming from out of state. They all know when the wedding is, and they'll have the invitation anyway. To me, save the dates are a waste of money that are only going to get thrown away.

One billion percent necessary. About 1/3 of our guests will be traveling over 1000 miles to attend our wedding with families and will need ample notice to take off time, plan, save etc.

So I didn't want the extra expense of save the dates so I made "save the date" business cards and they actually turned out nice. 100 of them for $5 I couldn't go wrong with that price

We won't be doing save the dates as majority of our guests are in town or within an hour or 2. I have family that is out of state, but they all know the date already. We will however send out the invites a little sooner than normal so our guests have time to plan for it.

Necessary for us. My family lives in another state, which is about a 14-hour drive. I wanted to be sure that everyone had time to plan/save/prepare for traveling. Many people knew the date, but kept forgetting and asking, so our save the dates were a good tangible reminder.

Necessary only if guests are traveling far or if it's a destination wedding.
