It depends on your wedding and group of guests. Personally it was a need for us to have save the dates because most of our guests are out of town and out of stare

Nice to have. We skipped these to save some extra money

I think it depends on the situation, but I also think that people's lives are so busy these days, that you really need to give an advance notice so they can properly plan for their attendance.

For us it was a need to have since our wedding is a destination wedding and everyone will have to travel in order to attend

Nice to have. Since our engagement is short, we skipped the save the dates and just sent out the invites early enough for people to make plans.

For me personally this is a must, however I’ve also been seeing couples ditching the mail ones in place for a digital one they send out.

I would say need to have if you want most of your guest to attend!

Need to have. Not only is it a nice way to let people know you’re getting married and the date, especially for people you don’t see often or those who aren’t on social media. It’s also a heads up to plan for that date, as most people don’t plan out their weekends/schedules months ahead of time.

They're nice to have for all weddings, but there are definitely different situations where they're a need. We've had a longer engagement & quite a few guests coming from out of town so it was a need for us.

Nice to have but not needed. Most people ask if you picked a date when they bring up the wedding and you are sending invitations.

Nice to have. They definitely can increase the amount of people that will be able to make the wedding by preparing ahead of time, but it's not necessary.

Need to have! This is super important for me because all of my family is traveling from out of state and need to make travel arrangements ahead of time. I am about to send mine out and have already had a ton of questions about details. A save the date isn't much, but its a good reminder of the date, and a good introduction to a website for information.

Definitely necessary if you have people traveling or are getting married on an "odd" day of the week. We have friends getting married in Atlanta (we are in Chicago) next month. Because we never were sent a save the date, we had NO IDEA what the date even was. Apparently they sent the actual invitations through email as well - and our emails were all wrong. Long story short, we found out the date, and realized that my husband can go, but I can't. The cutting corners on their budget definitely screwed over a large amount of guests for them. A save the date even for the out of towners ONLY would have been super helpful.

We got married on a Friday - definitely sent a save the date, even to local guests, but especially to guests living in other states. But had we held ours on a Saturday with mainly local guests? Maybe a save the date wouldn't have been necessary.

For us, it’s definitely need to have! Our families both live all over the place so we want to give everyone as much notice as possible.

Nice to have! I'm considering skipping them and sending out invites a little earlier than I originally planned!

For us it was definitely a Need to Have! Out of our 120 invited guests, all but 1 are from out of town (3 hour drive for most, including us), so we definitely wanted to give them notice in advance!Smiley smile
