Need to have. With this new day and age being filled with busy schedules, I definitely think it’s a necessity if you want a good turn out at your event. Most people need more than 6-8 weeks notice.

Nice to have. Most of my family has a 3 hour drive for our wedding so we did a digital save the date as a heads up and avoided buying and mailing traditional save the dates.

Nice to have, especially if it's a destination wedding.

I think they’re a nice to have. We did them, because most of our guests list works shift work and I wanted them to have advance notice to request the date off, and the other half were coming from out of town!

Nice to have unless it is a destination wedding, a week day wedding, or on a holiday weekend. We skipped them and don't regret it at all.

For me personally, it was not something I needed to do. We wrote a few handwritten letters to some of our older guests, but a facebook event was Save The Date enough. We will have gorgeous invitations to send out closer to the date, and now we only have to send things to the people we are fairly certain will be coming.

Need to have. People have busy schedules; nothing wrong with advance notice for planning and its a nice gesture. We are skipping an engagement announcement as the save the date is more informational before the formal invitation is sent out.

It’s a need to have, if you have out of town guests. We may be more informational on them to take the place of actual invite or just send them both together.

Need to have. Most of our guests are coming from out of town, so we have to give them plenty of heads up for time off requests, and booking flights, and hotel rooms.

This is just nice to have for us. Not really necessary as maybe one of our guests are from out of town. We plan on sending out invitations a little early.

I think it depends on the notice you are giving the guests. For me, we're cutting them out because the wedding was only 7 months away when we set the date/venue. So that's just like sending out 2 invites... Not necessary. But had we gone with a different date that was 1-2 years out, I'd absolute send out save the dates. Just wasn't needed for us. Smiley smile
