Need. I think it's important to give people a heads up! So they can plan ahead, especially if they have kids and your not inviting the kids OR if they are from out of town.

Not Always necessary, but we did them because we have lots of people that will need to travel in order to get to our wedding destination. I sent them out with plenty of notice so that all of our favorite people could plan ahead.

I go both with this one. For family and friends that have to fly in or for a desitnation wedding this is a Need to have, however if everyone is pretty local then it is nice to have.

I’m sending Save The Dates only to my out of state friends and family who will be traveling. I don’t think it’s necessary for everyone.

It depends! For us I felt it was a need simply because everyone is going to have to travel a minimum of an hour to get to the wedding. I figure if you need to book a hotel room you should give your guests a heads up!

I think it’s important to let people know in advanced when your big day is.

It's nice to have. We did them just because our family's calendar fills up fast

I think it depends on the situation. For destination weddings or wedding that may occur around a holiday - they can be very important for guests to know this information sooner rather than later. For a typical wedding, during regular season, probably not needed so much.

Sort of both! Nice to have most weddings but not necessary. Need to have for destination, out of towns or weekday/holiday weddings.

We are having a Thursday wedding. We only invited about 45 people and about half of them will need to travel at least a few hundred miles. We emailed out save the dates last month with room block and travel info. We received about 30 positive responses on the website from the save the dates. I am sure that some will end up declining closer to the date, however, when we talk to people, they say they are looking forward to it.

Just nice to have. Almost all of our friends/family are on social media, we made an engagement announcement there and included the date (Halloween so we won’t be budging on that.) Only two people we’re inviting aren’t on social media, my gramma and his father so we just informed them verbally. Not to mention it is a Saturday and very local so easy for most guests to attend as well. The invitations as it’s closer will be enough.

I believe it's a need to have since everybody except my small set of local friends are out of state. And travel arrangements need to be made in advance. And for the local ones, they tend to travel a lot, so I wanted to make sure they don't put something else on their schedule for that day. The cost of it was minor - I had a coupon. But I'm still dealing with annoyances and confusions on the save the dates (some people mistake it as the invite; many didn't realize I put the wedding website on the back). Though, if I didn't send them, I'd be annoyed with people calling me and my parents being like "when and where is the wedding."
