Saving cake for 1st anniversary? Sounds like food poisoning waiting to happen...

Is anyone else actually doing this? I had heard of this tradition years ago and have always been put off by it. Is there anyone who has done this before? Was it awful? FH and I were talking about it tonight and decided against it but I'd like to hear other opinions.

Not us. Aside from the little sliver I had during the cake cutting I didn't eat any of ours on the wedding day so I inhailed that top layer on the drive to our honeymoon. We get a free anniversary cake from our bakery so I look forward to reliving that memory. Although with baby due that day I'll have to see if DH can smuggle it in to the hospital.

We are just going to order a cake from the same bakery with the same flavor etc as our top tier on our 1st anniversary. The baker is very happy to do this for us.

The place we are getting our cake from gives us a certificate to come back on our one year anniversary to get a small cake just like the one we had so that's what were doing.

Eh not sure. We might be getting our cake from Buttercream, and instead of having you save your top, they invite you to come in on your 1 year anniversary and pick out a small personalized cake.

Our cake artist is making us a special tiny little cake to freeze for our anniversary. I think it will already be wrapped and ready to freeze. This was an added little bonus. He's making our cake as a gift, we've been friends since childhood.

I don't think we are going to save it or get another one. My FH just heard about that and he thought that was gross. And i'm not a big fan of fresh cake let alone year old frozen cake... so i don't mind skipping that tradition.

One of the bakeries I spoke with actually had a deal with your wedding cake that they would make a replica top piece on your one year anniversary for free - which I thought was nice, because honestly - who wants to eat frozen year-old cake?

Well we did it and we are still alive, what our cake maker had done is use the harden frosting for the top layer of the cake that way when we froze the cake it would be well protected. Our anniversary was on the 9th of April and we actually just had our last piece of cake last night with some wine, lol lol. No sickness here.

I've never heard any complaints about the anniversary cake! Some bakeries will include a free anniversary cake (a replica made on the anniversary) with your order though.. but as long as you store it well (you can google instructions) a lot of people say it's as moist as the day it was made!

I think its more of just the tradition even if you decide to freeze it, it does not mean that you have to eat it. I plan to freeze mine but get the bakery to make another small of the exact same one for the wedding and have it instead.

I've heard both good and bad outcomes but we decided not to save ours. It's not that sentimental to us and it also means that we won't have to order as much of it.

Our "first" year anniversary won't be for another 4 years! I can't imagine trying to keep a small frozen cake for that long.

Our plan is to take a trip back to KW for our anniversary (where we got married) and eat dinner at the same place we had our wedding dinner & have them make a small cake with the same flavor & icing. :o)

I did that the first time I got married - cake was edible but so dry it was hard to swallow, so why bother! We are going to eat the whole thing up at the reception - any leftovers go home with guests.

My baker told me not to save ours, he flat out said it was not going to be good, we are having fresh raspberries and chocolate mouse and white chocolate filling in cake. we too were given the option to get a small replica for 1st year anniversary. i dont think food poison is an issue as much as stale old cake with freezer burn is
