Saving cake for 1st anniversary? Sounds like food poisoning waiting to happen...

Is anyone else actually doing this? I had heard of this tradition years ago and have always been put off by it. Is there anyone who has done this before? Was it awful? FH and I were talking about it tonight and decided against it but I'd like to hear other opinions.

Me and FH are doing it.

Our baker asked us if we would need a box for our top tier, so they are bringing the small box when they deliver it to the reception location so we can bring it home easily and then wrap it and freeze it =)

We are having cupcakes instead of a cake. We're also going to have a small cake to cut but I'm not concerned with having anything to freeze. Neither of us likes cake all that much anyway and the thought of old, thawed cake doesn't sound good at all. But FSIL is our baker so I'm thinking if we want an anniverssary cake, she'll probably just make us another one!

Omg, ours was SOOOO good! We didnt do a wedding cake, but a cheesecake wedding cake and we saved the top piece, my aunt wrapped it in loose plastic wrap and then aluminum foil and then two containers. lol We were scared on our 1st yr anniversary (2011) but when we opened it was AMAZING!! I talked to a friend from Britain and she said that there the couples always save their cake but the secret to keeping it from going bad is adding "alcohol" to it. So maybe your bakery can make a suggestion or make you a small mini cake with that in it to help preserve it? It was a great treat for my husband and I. Highly suggest it.

We got married last Saturday. We save a slice of cake. We only had a two tier cake. We plan on eating it this Saturday for out 1 "week" anniversary. I wouldn't save it past that!

We decided against saving ours, but plan on purchasing a small red velvet to sort of keep with the tradition.

    We are doing it.

It's driving us crazy though having cake in our freezer. WE Want to eat it. I hear if it's sealed up really well there are no problems. But we shall see on 04/14/13 lol

My parents did this. They said they had one bite and threw it out cause it didn't taste very good but they didn't regret doing it for the "tradition" of it. So we will do it. If anything, we will eat one bite and throw it out. No biggie. Smiley smile
