School Bus or Charter Bus???

Samantha, on March 11, 2019 at 9:19 PM Posted in Planning 0 14

I've been encouraged to find guest transportation to our wedding due to the number of out-of-town guests and the parking situation in downtown (there are only garages- the nearest garage is a 2 minute walk). The hotels are 15 minutes from the venue.

So I found a bus company that offered me 2 quotes:

-air conditioned school bus is $800 for 3 pick ups and 5 drop offs for 8 hours.

-coach bus is $1000 for 3 pick ups and 5 drop offs for 8 hours.

We are already over budget and I'm getting stressed about all this money, but I'm having trouble deciding the better option. Is it worth the $200 to upgrade or should I save the money?

Where are you located? Because I work for school board and we do rent out our buses?

The wedding is in Frederick, MD but the bus company is in Westminster. It's a charter bus company (the kind that runs tours to New York and such), but they have the option for school buses too.

I think the fact you are providing transportation is great! I would save the money at the end of the day no one is going to care what kind of bus they took home they’ll just be happy they are receiving a free ride so that they can fully enjoy your wedding!

I think it depends on the type of wedding you are having. For me, I’d opt for the charter bus. In the grand scheme of things, $200 isn’t that much and charter buses have a nicer look and feel to them. Maybe I’m just a snob, but I’d prefer to have a charter bus associated with my wedding than a big, bright yellow school bus.

School bus! I think it would be kind of fun, especially at the end of the night when most people won't care. Or no bus and let them Uber as needed.

Considering it is just a 15 min drive, save the cash and do the school bus! Plus in a way it is a bit more fun! It also provides more space at the end of the night as I know I don't like to be more cramped after I have been dancing and drinking all night.

Save the money and do the school buses. The woman we are working with at our venue actually said a lot of people are doing that these days and gave us their number. 15 minutes is such a short drive. We have school buses on our to-do list to call and our drive will be about 10 minutes more than that

Avoid the school bus. There is nothing fun about sticking to cheap vinyl seats that you know some 7 year old threw up in at least once. I've been to weddings with coach buses, and with school buses (all weddings I've gone to in the past 2 years have had transportation) and people remember the school bus - and not in a good way.

I personally love the nostalgia associated with the school buses, but I can understand Valerie's comment. It's really up to you, but I vote school buses.

If you are already over budget, then I'd go for the cheaper option. You can't put yourself in the poor house over one day (although it is a very important day). I don't think guests will complain if it's a school bus vs charter bus, as long as they are getting free transportation (which is very generous of you).

I would save the money and go with the school bus. We are thinking of that as well. Everyone I have talked to has said they really wouldn’t care either way and that the school bus could be fun! It isn’t like they will be stuck on it for hours at a time.
