Scottish-themed wedding: Oathing Stone Ceremony

#Rhettytotietheknot, on June 28, 2021 at 10:42 AM Posted in Wedding Ceremony 0 5

Hi! We're having a Scottish-inspired wedding (hello, fellow Outlander nerds out there Smiley love ) and we're wondering if anyone has any ideas of how to display our small oathing stones (wishing stones) for our guests to take as they make their way to their seats?

For reference, we're asking our guests to take a small stone (which we are painting with our initials and wedding date) and hold it tight while we say our vows. Our officiant will explain to them that they should be putting "well wishes" etc into the stone for us as a couple. They then take the stones home with them as a favor!

I feel weird about putting them all in a big bowl and want to find a creative way to display them. Any ideas welcome!

I mean, firstly, I wouldn't say you're having a Scottish themed wedding, because that's kind of rude. You're utilizing Scottish traditions, but cultures are not a theme...it would be like saying you're having an African or Chinese themed wedding.

In regards to your question, a beautiful statement piece bowl, or box wouldn't be out of place. Otherwise creating something almost like a cupcake tiered stand would work I suppose.

Makes sense. It's interesting you say that as my fiance is Scottish and had no problem with us using the term "Scottish-themed" and his family hasn't voiced any concerns either... but I get what you're saying.

    Thank you for the suggestion.

Honestly that was going to be my one caveat, was if someone was of descent, but I would definitely say 'we're honoring/incorporating a lot of FH's Scottish roots and traditions into the whole day'.

I don't know if you guys have anything in your area, but you could maybe find a glass blowing studio and see if you could make a bowl together to add significance to the piece. Or you could ask the family if there's anything they've done in the past for the stones.

That's an excellent recommendation!!! We actually do have a glass blowing studio nearby that we love to support and I would've never thought of this. Thank you!

You could just get one of those pallet style bins and place some tartan fabric or blanket inside and just lay them all inside for people to grab!
