Scouting Photo locations

Most photographers are good at what they do. They are the ones who typically know the best places to take great shots. They might even provide recommendations. I’m pretty sure if you talk to them they might already have some options even though they’re not from there. You could also look up some places that you might be interested in as well.

My fiancé and I wanted photos done at a certain location and our photographer was like ummmmmmmmmm it might be better to do them here..... that annoyed me. We ended up doing the shoot at the location he suggested. We loved the venue and it was a great choice. We just had no personal connection to that place. We LOVE the photos tho and we got to trust him during this time. He told us about how he went to locations that the couple requested and it was difficult to shoot because of the sunlight and lack of other stuff only photographers think of.



He said that during a wedding, the location doesn’t matter as much because the subject of the photos IS THE wedding and there are plentiful of photo opportunities. However with an engagement shoot it’s just the couple so it can get hard to find shots?

Anyway, my short answer would be to pick 1 or 2 spots that are special to you and your fiancé. Maybe the place that you met? A park that you frequented together? Also be open to her suggestions ! Good luck!
