Not necessary at all! We're all grown adults and if we can't make our own decisions about where to sit, we are in big trouble. Every day I pick a place to sit at lunch time, or out with friends. If you have family members that can't be trusted to be a civil human being because they chose to sit next to someone, then they probably shouldn't be invited out in public at all.

NECESSARY! People will just be running amok all confused without it. Also lets you have a say in deescalating situations. Separating people who have drama, making sure there isn't 12 at one table and 3 at another, etc. etc.

Yes! We are doing a seating chart! I love the idea of it, and we will be putting a lot of thought into who we seat together so that everyone feels comfortable and has a good time. I also have seen at other wedding where there are random spots spread throughout.
I like the look of every seat being filled.

Seating Charts seem super necessary to me. It just helps things run more smoothly! Especially if you want everyone to sit and enjoy themselves rather than fussing about where they're going to sit.

Table assignments are 110% a necessity! Seat assignments can be an extra step, but not necessary if tables are assigned!

Not necessary. I would at least do table assignments though, not specific seat assignments.

Not in my case. I think it's a bit snooty. For a large wedding, yes. But, as a guest, I don't like having someone dictate where I can sit.

I feel like since we are having a small wedding that this is not necessary. Our wedding party will sit with us at one table, but they rest of our family know one another, so I don't really see the need to separate people to assigned tables. If we were having a bigger wedding then I would, so that no one was trying to find a spot to fit, or feeling "left out"

I want to have them, since most of our family and friends don’t know each other and it would promote mingling, but our reception is going to be a lot more casual than I wanted so we probably won’t have them.

I think it's a little brave to not have one! Especially if you have families that will hardly know each other before. Trying to put people together that will work well is challenging but worth it in the end I think!

Do you think putting them at certain tables is better? I always thought it was nice because then I didn't have to hunt for a seat or feel like I sat in a family member's spot.

Definitely necessary if you're having a large guest list. We're doing a seating chart.

Not for us. Our wedding will be very small and casual. As things stand now, we have no plans for a formal reception anyway.

Seating or table assignments aren't really needed if you have a small wedding (like less than 30-50 people). Table assignments are absolutely mandatory if you have more than 100 guests, and anyone who says so otherwise clearly has never been to a larger wedding.

I think it is necessary, especially after reading through other posts on WeddingWire! We will be doing assigned tables. That way people at least have a sense of direction on where to go!

At least generalized, unless your wedding is small. People want an idea of where to sit.
