Seating at wedding

Shania, on January 26, 2022 at 9:19 AM Posted in Wedding Ceremony 0 8
I have about 150 people coming to my wedding. I wants benches in the grass for the ceremony but they fit 4 people to a bench meaning I’d need at least 38 benches for 15$ a pop. Or do I just forget the benches and use chairs from reception since I’ve already paid for those. Or what are your thoughts on just having half the amount of benches and people standing in the back ?
Let me know yours thoughts!

I also considered benches because I love the look! But it is more expensive. I think it would be kind of rude to not have enough seats for everyone. And then I thought about my guests who have physical ailments or back problems where sitting on a bench for 20-30 minutes would be uncomfortable.
If you've already paid for chairs for the reception and you can use them for the ceremony, I would just stick with that if you don't want to spend money on enough benches to seat everyone.

I wouldn’t have people stand. It might be hard for some people to do that for a long period of time and for some shorter guests, they may not be able to see if half the guests are standing. Also it would be hard to figure out who should get to sit and who should stand. If you can’t afford to do the benches, I’d just stick with the chairs. Will your venue move the chairs from the ceremony to the reception?

Definitely don’t have guests stand. Only you and your FS know your budget, can you afford benches? Is having benches more important to you than other aspects of your wedding that you could spend money on? If not, just use the chairs. The outcome of your day won’t be any different because you didn’t have benches at the ceremony.

I'd personally rather sit on a chair vs a bench. Everyone should have a seat!

I definitely would not make people stand. You’ve invited them as your guest so it may come across as rude. I would look at it this way..are you going to look back at your wedding 10 years from now and say “damn I really wish we went with the benches!”? If not, skip them! If yes (and that’s perfectly fine!) then get them. But make sure you have enough for everyone. Benches give a nice look but I’d personally want my own seat. My reception includes the chairs so we’re just using those. It’s a good way to save money too!

Never ask guests to stand. You don’t know by looking at a person what their mobility limitations are. Save your money and use the chairs you already have. Plus those can be spread out to accommodate social distancing where people may be uncomfortable that close together on a bench.
