By name. It’s much easier for people to find their own names in alphabetical order than to go through every table looking.

We're doing ours by table as we won't have many guests. I would say once you start reaching 150+, organize it by name.

I've seen it both ways. The last wedding we went to was by table, however we have chosen to do it alphabetically by last name. I feel that is an easier option, because guests won't know what table they've been assigned to, but they will always know where their last name is most likely to be placed!

I agree that by name is generally easier and will be faster for people to find their table number and get out of the way so a huge traffic jam doesn’t occur. Even with our small wedding of about 60 I think it’ll be easier, but we’ll see what I decide next year when it’s closer.

Does anyone have a picture of the seating chart by name vs table? I've only seen pictures of one's by table, so I'm having a hard time imagining how they would look..

Were doing it alphabetically as we have close to 200 guests. I put together a mock up of it. We don’t have all our RSVPS In yet so I’ll add table numbers once we figure they out and then it’s going ona 5ft x3 ft chalkboard

Thank you! I was imaging a straight list of names with numbers.. breaking it out by letter makes more sense lol

Thanks for sharing! We are inviting almost 350 people so I'm torn if they could all fit on one board.

It depends on how you are displaying it, but if you have 350, by name would be nicer for your guests. (by last name) State it at the top.

For 350 people I would do escort cards instead of a seating chart.

We only had 55 people so we did it by table.

If you do it by table, put the names under each table in alphabetical order. Otherwise it takes forever to find your name!

I much prefer escort cards over a seating chart. Seating charts force all of your guests to crowd around a single sign. Escort cards can be spread out over several table and disperses the crowd.

If you must go the seating chart route, I’d definitely arrange it by name. Finding your name in an alphabetical listing is quick and easy. Otherwise, guests are forced to look through each table one by one until they find their name, which just further compounds the crowding issue I mentioned above.

I had always planned on doing it by Table numbers, but these are great ideas for listing them by Last name that I’m definitely going to consider.
