Seating Chart or Name cards?

The Sealpups, on June 24, 2019 at 2:21 PM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 13

I went to a wedding where it had both and thought it was nice. At first, I wasn't fond of the "name card" idea (unnecessary expenses) but from the guest experience, I found that the name cards had a personal touch and gave it more of a formal tone VS. "pick your seat free for all" (not bad if that's what you're doing). My FH and I go to family parties a lot, including the current trend of fancy 1st birthday parties. We usually just pick a table but with the wedding, I like having the formal touch,

My sister was telling me it would be too much to have a seating chart - I would have one or the other. Which would you prefer?

With the seating chart, I would just pick one on etsy; name cards would seem to be more work (I read that most websites don't print names. We would have to purchase the see through stickers with names and stick them on stick them on the cards). I know minted just started doing customized name cards but it's so much so spend $150+ name cards that won't be used ever again

So I am taking a survey and asking - from the guest experience (or maybe your own): Seating Chart? Or name cards?

I prefer escort cards because I think they are easier for guests and it’s a lot easier if you need to make a last minute change. I dislike everyone huddling around a poster board trying to find their name. It’s easier to grab a piece of paper that’s been laid out on a table in alphabetical order.

I think seating chart for table assignments is way easier actually. The only reason I'd have name cards is if it's a part of the party favor.

We used name cards, bought them from Michaels, $5 for 50 cards and I just wrote them myself.

I decided to do escort cards I felt like it is more work but I feel like it will be much easier for the guests.

We are doing a seating chart & place cards on specific seats since we are assigning seats. If you are only assigning tables, escort cards are great too!

I’m using place cards & only assigning tables not seats. However, this is a requirement of the venue (we need place cards w/ individual names & their entree choice is indicated on the back). I got cute little stamps for the entree. Apparently the venue servers instruct the guests on how to put the place card on the table in front of them & the stamp indication is how the servers know who ordered what.

I like escort cards better. I feel like cards go a lot smoother and faster because they just pick up the card and go instead of everyone gathering and pushing around one board.

We're doing a seating chart due to expense and space. Our venue simply doesn't have the room for an additional table for escort cards and one chart is much more manageable than 100+ escort cards.

We're not doing any of that. It's a pretty casual wedding, the only assigned table is our sweetheart table. Most of our friends and family know one another so I want them to sit with who they want to. I always hated going to weddings and being stuck at tables with strangers and trying to force small talk. That's me though, some people love that

We plan on doing a seat chart, the cards seem like more of a hassle to find where a chart is just on a board so I think it’s easier you find names.

We are doing both! A sign with the names under the table numbers and then placecards at each seat (which is also a favor)

As I guest I 100% prefer individual guest cards, which is what I plan on doing for my own wedding too. (Also if you’re doing a plated meal most caterers require it).
