Trying to weigh the pros and cons of having a seating chart vs not having one. Need lots of opinons. I do not really want to deal with the hassel but my FH wants one.

I totally second the seating chart side. I don't think you need to choose specific seats for guests, but definitely assign tables.

Two of the weddings I went to this summer had open seating and finding seats was a big fiasco at both. I know I've said this on other seating chart topics too, but it was seriously a clusterf^#$.

We are doing assigned tables. Everyone can sit where they want at their assigned tables. We are trying to mix it up a little, but putting people together that know each other. Using our ushers to escort ladies to their tables. Bridal attendances will manage seating chart & escort cards.

Before this spring, my FH and I were debating a seating chart. I felt uncomfortable dictating where people sat, and felt a seating chart was fancier than our vibe. But FH insisted we needed one. He was right: in the spring we had a very bad guest experience at a wedding with no seating chart.

We made the apparent mistake of going to the restroom between Cocktail Hour and Reception. When we got to the Reception, there was only ONE seat left in the whole place. My FH put our stuff on it, so we'd at least have one seat. Then we stood awkwardly off to the side, trying to find someone who could get us another chair. They asked everyone to sit; we obviously remained standing, so someone from the family asked the two of us directly if we could please sit down, to which we responded that we would love to, but there was only one chair left. We still didn't get one, and continued to stand awkwardly. Finally we asked a waiter and he kindly brought us one.

We were also starving since we hadn't had a chance to grab breakfast before the 10am ceremony. BUT, since there hadn't been a chair there, and therefore also no place setting, we had to share food meant for one person, until finally we had an opportunity to say something to the waiter and asked if we could please have another table setting.

So, my FH was right, and I am now very much pro seating chart, no matter what kind of wedding you're having.
