Seating Charts

Maggie, on April 24, 2020 at 11:23 AM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 13

My fiancé and I are debating over doing a seating chart or not. We have been to weddings where you seat yourself and have a name card to fill out to "reserve" that seat while cocktail hour takes place. Just wondering if anyone had some input on it?

Team seating chart always. It’s more convenient for guests and more budget friendly. If you decide not to have a seating chart, you’ll need to provide 20% more tables, chairs, place settings, etc. because guests won’t seat themselves efficiently.

I agree with PP. I prefer a seating chart or assigned seating.

I'm definitely all about the seating chart. You don't have to give people their assigned chairs, but if you can assign tables, it will make it so much less of a headache for your guests! Caytlyn gave some fabulous reasons why you should have a seating chart; you would hate for a family to get split up because there weren't enough chairs at a table for them or to have a table with only 2 guests because people took those chairs elsewhere!

Definitely do a seating chart—assigned tables at the very least. Open seating just sounds like It would get super disorganized with people moving chairs and trying to fit more people at one table.

Also team seating chart. We assigned tables and let the tables sort of their own seats. We do have a large friends group that all went to college together, we didn't have a wedding party so we sat that group at one long farmhouse table together. There were about 30 people at that table and they had no issues. All other tables had 8-10 people assigned.

Assigned tables is a great in-between option. Not only for budgetary reasons, but also thinking that you and your fiancé also have the best bird's eye view about who is on the list who should sit with each other, would get along, etc.

Defiantly a seating chart! It ensures couples/families can sit together and prevents open seats at tables. It is also much easier for your guests and provides a better flow from cocktail hour to dinner.

At the very least, assign guests to a table and let them pick their seats. Otherwise you risk people getting separated. The assignment is only through dinner.

Assigned tables is a great idea for all the reasons people have listed above. You don’t have to assign seats because people can figure that out.

I'm doing assigned tables, but debating on assigning actual seats! All the reasons listed are perfect (people suck at having too much freedom!) and it take a lot of the headache out of it!

    Team seating chart.

We've never really been to a wedding *without* one. It's just too chaotic!

Seating charts can be a headache *before* the wedding, but during? Makes everything so much easier.

We decided not to have one, and even bought one of those cute signs from Etsy...you know, "choose a seat not a side" 😏 we are having a small wedding, no more than 55 guests, and all are our closest relatives (parents, siblings, their kids, and the aunt/uncle/cousin we actually grew up with lol) and each our very best friend and their partner. I imagine it may be a bit more chaotic if there are more people attending.
