Seating for a quick ceremony?

Nicole, on October 29, 2020 at 4:39 PM Posted in Wedding Ceremony 0 5

So, we have decided to go to Hawaii. Initially we thought maybe it would be 4-6 people with us. After letting the people close to us know our plans, many have expressed an interest in going. However, we would still be looking at 10-15 people max.

Our initial plan was to get married on a beach and take our guests out to a sunset dinner cruise (all you can eat crab and steak, I've had it in Hawaii 3 years prior and it's awesome!). With the additional guests, it does drive up our dinner cost. So, I am looking into alternative dinner options. But am wondering if I can go with my original planned ceremony. Most do not include seating for guests, it's a very quick ceremony (less than 15 minutes). What would the advice we for seating? It's a pretty big jump in cost for seating, wondering if I can save here. I've never been to a beach wedding, so I'm really unsure how to proceed.

If the ceremony is on the beach, you could always provide beach towels for guests to sit on? It's not as formal as chairs and such, but would be a cheaper option than renting chairs, and would be a cool keepsake/wedding favor for guests.

I would definitely have seating because guests arrive early. So they would be left standing around in the sand before the ceremony and throughout it.

We booked a beach silver wedding in Hawaii with our kids and son’s gf (3 adult and 1 kid). We include chairs. Our venue said it will be around 25 minutes ceremony, so I can’t imagine them standing in one spot under the sun for that long. The venue offer pillows too but it’s not my taste. They would look weird in their formal outfit on the “floor”.

As long as you don't have elderly or physically disabled guests you should be fine to skip chairs. As a guest, I would rather stand for x amount of time than sit on a blanket. I've also seen a variety of beach wedding videos where the ceremony was super short and guests stood the entire time. Unlike a traditional wedding, guests are not going to arrive 30 minutes prior to get a seat.

Thank you all for the quick reply! The beach towels would be a great idea and maybe something I can actually add on!

I called the company back that we want to do the ceremony with and thankfully, it looks like chairs can be added on for $215, which we think is definitely well worth it.
