Seating plan for wedding - which layout is best of these 2?

mrswinteriscoming, on November 2, 2021 at 9:25 PM Posted in Planning 0 4

Our small wedding will have 40-41 people (RSVPs due next week).

We have 2 choices for our seating arrangements, either:

  1. 2 tables of 15 in a row (with 1 person at the head of each table) and 1 table slightly set back with 10/11 people; or

  2. 1 extra large table of 30 and 1 table slightly set back with 10/11 people.

Seating plan for wedding - which layout is best of these 2? 1

This is a photo of option (a) but with 3 less seats (we only found out now we are allowed a few more – COVID restrictions) and which shows the room.

I personally prefer the idea of layout (b) better but I don’t want anyone at the smaller table to feel left out (but also don’t like the idea of all 3 tables having 1 odd one on the head of the table!)

It seems odd that Covid would allow you to have that many people at a table. Because there is no social distancing. Try to have a few people at multiple tables rather than everyone at the same table. I can’t imagine anyone being upset by it because most people currently want to be in smaller groups. I would also skip the person at the end of the table because they have almost no room compared to other guests.

Where we live we are technically meant to be socially distancing but it is based on a rule of 1 person per 2sqm so what venues in our area do in practice is just have people situated however they like so long as the density limit is not breached. In saying that, everyone is vaccinated and the state will be at about 95% fully vaxxed by the date of our wedding.

I might talk to the family about it because I feel like it would be too awkward to have people at the heads of the table but I feel like the people at the smaller table would feel left out (if we did a big table). Definitely one to be discussed I think!

I think one long table will make the people at the leftover table feel kinda bad, I'd try to stick with even size tables

I agree with both of your concerns. I would be afraid the one smaller table set off to the side would make those guests feel left out or as though they didn’t “make the cut” to sit at the main table. I would also find it awkward to have one person sitting at the head of each table. Are round tables an option? You could do 5 round tables with 8 people each, or 4 round tables with 10 people each.
