Seating question - at what age do kids get their own seat?

Rebecca, on May 29, 2015 at 1:31 PM Posted in Planning 0 8

We'll have a handful of families at our wedding with toddlers and babies, and no high chairs are available. I assume babies will just sit in a parent's lap and toddlers and up will get their own chair.

I'm doing escort cards - at what age would a kid get their own seat? Like if I have a family with 5 year old, 3 year old, and 6 month old kids, would they just be given four seats because it's assumed that the 6 month old will sit in someone's lap?

Any advice?

I would say probably 2. A six month old definitely can't sit on her own, so that family would get 4 seats.

Will also have a handful of infants/toddlers.

FH and I are contemplating 2 options.

    1. call the family and see what they prefer. They might just keep the infant in a car seat and set the car seat on a chair or they might leave the infant in a stroller.

    2. talk to our venue and make sure they are prepared to bring in an extra chair for a child if needed.

I agree, maybe talk to the family. They might have a booster seat or high chair that can be placed on a regular chair that they would like to use.

A high chair will take a whole space at the table. Booster seats will need a chair, so a chair for every guest, even babies. Just make sure you have the appropriate chair for the appropriate child.

I'm counting a seat for every guest, even babies. Little babies come with a lot of baggage...like diaper bags, infant carrier thing (oh my god, what is the word i'm looking for?), etc. Even if the kid is too young to sit by himself, the parents will probably still need the extra seat to put things down.

Yeah I'd count a seat for every person, even the newest baby. Then ask the parent if they prefer a chair, high chair, or just maybe empty space for a stroller. You don't want to count on a 6 month old sitting on a lap and then try to squeeze in a stroller at a full table.

Every tried eat a nice meal with a baby balanced on your lap? A seat for everyone so baby seats/boosters/whatever can be placed there.
