Seating/Table Question!

Betsy, on June 13, 2011 at 2:35 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 6

Hey ladies,

So, my venue had originally told me that it can hold 100 people. Well after i sent out 100 invites I found that they can only seat 80 people at round tables, plus another 10 at the rectangular head table. My final RSVP count is 91 people and this is including 3 children under 6 years old. My question is, do I find a rental service and rent a table for the night? I know that the venue has 100 chairs. Does anyone know if a 5 ft round table that seats 8 can fit 9? The three children are my 2 neices and nephews, should I bring in a kids table for them? Just wondering if you girls had any good ideas... Thanks Ladies!

**Edited to add, I didn't really want to have to rent another round table because I am afraid its going to make the dance floor even smaller... espcially since I am only one person above my seating max!**

    A 48 inch table will seat 6 people, while a 54 inch table can accommodate 6 to 8 people. A 60 inch 8 - 10 and 72 inch table will seat 10 to 12 people. and 4 - 5 feet between the tables.

Are you sure your venue has enough floor space to accommodate another table if you even bring one in? I'm just curious about fire code and walking space.

*edit changed 60" I just cut and paste from the site but I agree with below statements. How many people you can squeeze in also has to do with the side of your centerpieces and if you are putting favors and other stuff on the tables.

Thanks for the info Hayley, they can fit another round table but it sort of goes into the dancing area, so i am worried it will make the dance floor even smaller. :/

So a 60 inch table would be a 5 ft table... and it will seat 10 to 12... So it may work out where I could put 9 people to a table instead of the 8...

I wouldn't worry about the dance floor being covered.... can you ask your venue if they can break down one table after dinner to make room for dancing. People will be leaving, and many will be on the dance floor, so you don't NEED all the tables still up after dinner.

I think if one of the people is a child (or lots of small women) and you do not have a TON of stuff on the tables (large centerpieces or big favors) you probably can fit a table of 9.

Every online guide I've seen says 8 people to a 60 inch or 5 foot round table. One website even breaks it down by circumference saying that a 60 inch table is 16 feet around the outside, so for 8 people, each person gets 2 feet of space. I would say if you are only over by 1 person, you could do one table with 9 if one of those people is a small child.

A 60" round technically fits 10 very skinny people but 8 is comfortable. If you have high chairs or kids you can squeeze to 10, but I don't recommend it. You end up running out of room on the table for the table settings. A 72" table will fit 10-11 comfortably, but 12 can fit.

Hmmm thanks ladies! This really helps!!!! I will probably add a child to a table of 8. I have a feeling they won't be seated for very long anyways...
