Secrets to diy makeup that stays put

Jessica, on July 27, 2020 at 10:51 AM Posted in Hair and Makeup 0 6

After deciding to find a new hair and makeup artist at the last minute, I’ll be doing my own makeup now.

I usually only wear foundation and mascara. I tested out some eyeshadow looks last night. I’m skipping blush actually because my skin is already super pink and we are getting married outside when it’s supposed to me 90 degrees.

What are your secrets for applying makeup, especially eyeshadow, with some staying power?

Eye primer , cream concealer, setting powder & then apply the eyeshadow on top.

Definitely invest in primer and setting spray. I use smashbox primer water which can be used for both. I'd reconsider blush or at least use a little bronzer. Once you use foundation, your natural 'pink' cheeks won't always shine through and little will not hurt and allow it to look natural.

One of the main secrets to getting make up to stay put is allowing it to fully dry between applications. foundation needs a good 10 - 15 minutes to dry and set, don't do anything with your face until it's dry.

I also use lancome's foundation pressed powder which can be used as a setting powder, it too works.

use sponges and brushes and practice until you find that perfect look.

I follow these rules for big engagements and my makeup always stays perfect up to 8 hours if not longer.

This is so helpful. My bridesmaids are trying to get me to get my makeup done, but it wasn’t an expense I budgeted for. They told me to go get a trial, but I’m hesitant because I’ve never had a good experience with anyone else doing my makeup. Plus, covid.
If I have this, I can at least practice on myself and decide whether I want to pay someone else to do it.
    Thanks for the insight!!!

Start with primer. Get high quality products. End with a finishing spray.

There is an elf putty primer that I absolutely love and it holds onto makeup really well. It’s $8 at target. I also personally love using highlighter because it makes my skin shine where I apply it and I use it as part of my eye makeup, makes it look a little more shimmery. Check out YouTube for some videos on what to do and test it out. Also, if you draw upside down triangles with concealer under your eyes then blend in...it makes your face look A LOT brighter.

Get a good long-wearing primer that's appropriate for your skin type. Prep your skin well with a good skincare routine and allow it all to sink in for at least a half hour. If you're intending to use shimmery or glittery eye shadows, you can make them a little extra vibrant and longer wearing if you use glitter glue. The most popular are Too Faced (higher end) and NYX (cheap). I personally own NYX's and it's great. Avoid winged liner because you don't want it to run or bleed if you tear up...or even with the heat since you mentioned it'll be hot. My other tip would be to keep your eye shadow simple so that if it does fade a bit, it won't be too noticeable. Get a good setting spray like Urban Decay all nighter (available as a mini for cheaper), Morphe (i can't remember the name but it's in a can), or Skindinavia Bridal. Watch YouTube tutorials and practice a couple times so that on your big day, you won't feel rushed or indecisive. Good luck - I bet you will look amazing!
