Secular Ceremony

I'm also having a non-religious ceremony. Our officiant is technically clergy, but we didn't choose him for that; he's my BIL and we knew he would do whatever kind of ceremony we wanted. You can come up with your own script, readings, etc. and give people whatever roles you want. If you search for secular ceremony ideas on Google, you will find a bunch of suggestions.


As an example, here's my ceremony outline:
- Processional (groomswomen first, then MOH, then groom's parents, groom, bride's parents, bride)
- Welcome/opening remarks
- Fiancé's sisters doing a reading (not from the Bible or any religious text)
- My uncles performing a song on guitars and singing (not church music, a modern pop song that I chose)
- Signing our marriage license (so all the guests can be our witnesses)
- Vows (writing ourselves)
- Exchanging rings
- Kiss & recessional

We had a non-secular ceremony performed by my husband's uncle. He said a few things about marriage and love, we said our own vows, and then he said the things he's legally obligated to say to officiate a wedding. Our ceremony was about 15 minutes including the processional and recessional. People commented on how short and sweet it was (in a good way).

Also having a secular wedding and having a friend perform the ceremony. We already got legally married at the courthouse and all the judge said was "do you wanna marry each other? Cool, sign these papers."

We'll do our own vows, have our friend talk about how he knows us and the only real difference is that there's no mention of God or religion. Readings could be poems or quotes instead of biblical passages although we'll probably skip out on that.

Oh nice! I'm hoping for something similar. For me the most important part is the party aspect to celebrate us being together, not the boring legal stuff.

Non religious ceremony here! Here’s a template from my officiant. No reading for us. I have examples of what our ceremony script will look like or examples from my officiant if your interested! I obviously won’t share full things for free from her as I got them when signing a contract but I can share a bit here and there if you want to hear some script examples. I particularly like what I want her to say for our ring exchange
