Secular Wedding Locations

Jordan, on January 1, 2016 at 2:28 PM Posted in Style and Décor 0 19

My fiancé isn't religious, so we can't get married in a church unless he gets baptized. I don't want to force him to get baptized, so I'm trying to think of other places BESIDES churches to get married (and I really don't want a "fire hall wedding"). Any ideas?!

^yep, those. Check out the venues feature on WW - that might also give you some ideas of venues local to you.

Literally anywhere besides a church. Park, gardens, historical buildings, museums, lodge, community center, barn, farm, university, beach, backyard, wedding chapel, mansion...

Literally SO many other places. I've only attended one church wedding out of more than a dozen! Hotels, country clubs and golf courses are very popular. Almost anywhere you hold a reception can host a ceremony.

My dream was to have a destination wedding, and get married at the Georgia Aquarium.

Several of my friends have been married in churches and haven't been baptized. There are lots of churches that will let you rent their facility & likely won't ask you questions about your religion. The church we are using didn't ask us. Just another option if you do like the looks of a church as your venue. I can't wait to see the pictures in front of the stained glass windows in the one we are using. Good luck!

We had our ceremony and reception at a small mansion near us. We also looked at a winery. Here in KC there are tons of event spaces that are not the VFW hall, most with all inclusive packages.

Country club or even a pretty back yard. We had a similar situation. We chose a country club and a semi religious ceremony with a prayer before dinner. You'll both know the place when it's right.

We got married outside at a park on the river. Our reception was at the park inside a reception hall. Of my friends that got married last year none were married in a church, some were at the same place as their reception others weren't. The places varied from a museum to a public garden to a resort, to a vineyard, and a country club.

We're getting married at a historic train depot in my parents' hometown. Parks, gardens, ballrooms, libraries....

Your venue, parks, museums, galleries, colleges (very often have spiritual centers or party spaces), historic sites, libraries.

Where are you having your recepetion?

One of DH's few wedding opinions was 'no churches' so we got married at a lovely country club. It was perfect, one stop shopping! Married at a gazebo up the hill, everyone walked down the hill and we had the recetion at the club. It was cheap (ish), too!

Literally anywhere else. We are looking at museums, factories, warehouses, bridges, historical stuff. Anywhere that floats your boat and makes you happy is fine.

We are getting married in a historic hotel and hiring an officiant that fits both of our styles. Anywhere outside of the church and you should be fine. Good luck!

Great suggestions here already. I just wanted to add that our venue has a rooftop deck for the ceremony, and our reception will be in the ballroom downstairs. I'm sure lots of venues offer the option to have both parts of the wedding on site.

What church told you that you couldn't get married there unless he gets baptized? There are many churches that don't have that rule.

However, there are many places besides churches to get married. There are venues that are exclusively wedding venues, which can be helpful if you have a large number of guests. Or depending on the size of your guest list, you could get married anywhere from your own living room to any other place that people hold parties.

I am a civil wedding officiant and have officiated weddings at: the beach, botanical gardens, historic homes/museums, private homes & backyards, restaurants, parks, on boats, Starbucks, McDonald's, a drug rehab center (yep), country club, and reception halls.

There are many venues where ceremonies can be performed as well! If you provide us with your location, I'm sure some of us can give you specific suggestions!

I'm having everything done at a catering hall/grand hotel.
