Security guards?

Betsy, on August 4, 2017 at 11:44 PM Posted in Planning 2 28

How many of you hired security guards? Just curious I have noticed that most weddings I go to don't have any . I hired 2 just because I know my FH uncles tend to act some type of way when intoxicated and I ain't having it.

We had to have security with an open bar. It was in our contract, but also provided by the venue so we're just paying the venue

We're having 2, because we want to avoid a situation with 2 people. One is my uncle's sister (she's known for creating drama) and this woman who can't take a hint and we're worried she may try something then

We didn't, but there's absolutely nothing wrong with it, especially if you are nervous about behavior!

    Venue required it.

All of the venues I looked at required it and provided it either as part of the fee or an add on cost (same difference). I think it's good, especially serving alcohol and such.

Every venue I've worked at or attended has required security, and I know that some cities require an off duty officer (not a rent a cop).

Seriously? I've only worked one wedding where there were off duty cops there. It was a Muslim South Asian wedding and maybe they were worried some idiot would get the wrong idea. I don't remember seeing security at a wedding beyond that.

I mean we're not having security but we will be having someone there to make sure no unwelcome guest come because our venue is on a public park

I require an off duty officer not a rent a cop if alcohol is served otherwise my insurance would be beyond affordable. Rent a cops are about $25-$30 an hour, actual off duty officers with training are $40-$45 an hour (at least mine are).

Wow I didn't even realize this was common! My FH was considering it and I thought he was crazy but it does make sense if you are having it in a busy venue and having open bar. He is mostly worried about party crashes and one or two guests that can't hold their alcohol...

With our venue security guards is a requirement. we need to have one security guard for every 50 people, so we need to hire 4.

Our venue requires at least one off duty officer from the city department if there is alcohol served. The venue sets it up and we just pay the person the night of.

We had two at our wedding. It was included with the venue fee. They require security for every wedding.

Like pp have said some venues require it when serving alcohol. Personally I have never seen it and was surprised to see that when looking. However, it's not a terrible idea (especially if you have family like mine).

I've been to 100s of weddings and have never seen security. There is a permanent one at our local Vons Market now. He's so tiny, I could take him down.
