See through bodices- would you wear this? Why or why not?

Elizabeth, on May 25, 2021 at 2:59 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 24
I have loved the idea of a see through corset in a wedding gown since I was a teen. I only like it when it's tastefully done. For some reason I keep coming across these very sheer bodice dresses with lace (sometimes strategically placed). Then there's just circles to cover the actual girls. I think that looks very awkward and a Janet Jackson moment could ensue. Have you or are you or would you wear something like this? Are you worried about fashion faux pas happening? I think that looks ridiculous and would never wear something like that.

I agree with Lady, I would never wear something like the picture you posted. I don't think its something that looks nice at all.

Yea it looks like it would feel and look weird. The awkward shape and placement is odd. I'm just not sure why designers are making these type of coverings for illusion bodices. It's very odd looking. Just wondering if anyone has actually gotten on the band wagon or had a good or bad experience with this type of bodice. I figured most people would say no to if they would ever wear it but the why is always interesting!

I feel like I'm going to have a tough time dress shopping as I'm not keen on the current trends. I'm not a fan of the off the shoulder, I've seen a lot of dresses with deep v's on the sides with illusion, the illusion bodice also don't like. Most people want a nice picture of their dress hanging up and I feel like that wouldn't photograph well if you want that kind of picture

My dress has a lot of illusion and lace on a sheer bodice. I never in a million years would have thought to try it but my stylist put me in it and I fell in love. I think it adds a fun, bold statement without being too risqué. Calling it ridiculous is a little harsh IMHO, you don’t have to like it for yourself but that doesn’t mean it isn’t someone else’s dream dress. Let people wear what they want.

I think the color of the cups is a main issue. If you get cups that are closer to your skin color then you will get more of the look you liked of the 2nd picture. However the 1st picture doesn't have a ton of lace to cover so you will still see the cup.

Oh that's not my dress lol just asking peoples opinions of this specific trend. Not trying to make anyone feel bad either. Trends change with the decade. You can see that on still white with dresses from 10 years ago and 10 years before that and so on. This is just one of the current trends that I find very, um, extreme? Like you either love it or you hate it and I'm just asking why either way. I personally wouldn't because it either looks like a weird bra OR it looks like you're naked and if the lace moved you'd have a Janet Jackson moment. But I've seen photos like of the woman above in these dresses and they don't look horrid. We all have different preferences. Nothing wrong with that. I love a huge ballgown. Some people think they look ridiculous but who cares? It's just one of those things. Fashion always is. So hopefully no one is getting hurt feelings since that was not my intent.

Oof I'm waaayyy too self conscious to wear something that sheer! I do agree that the first picture probably makes it look worse than it is - the color of the cups should match the skin tone of the wearer, like the second picture! My dress is pretty sheer on top but has so much lace and embellishments that you can't even tell.

I think it depends on the amount of lace that disguises the cups. The first dress posted is quite jarring. They’re just so obvious and it takes away from the lace detailing.... it’s almost nonexistent. The second dress and the dress posted by Catherine (above) are very elegant and don’t make the cups the only focal point of the dress. You’re eyes flow throughout the entire dress unlike the first one... my eyes cannot seem to be drawn to anything other than the cups.

My dresses bodice is slightly see through big not over the top like this. I low key just hate my body and also want to make sure these wedding photos are something I want to pass to my grandchildren. Nothing wrong with see through I think it’s more dependent on how see through it is. I’m also like the same shade as the dress so it’s less bold.

I do like them on other people, but I personally wouldn't go for sheer - I've always had a sizeable bust and people already stare at them, so what would potentially look tasteful and pretty on someone else would probably look obscene on me, and it would be quite hard to find one which had cups that were sufficiently large to cover what needed to be covered, and to offer sufficient support to give a flattering shape.

I think Catherine's dress is a great example of it looking beautiful and tasteful, but two round cups like in the picture originally posted is a no from me.

Here's another example that I think is stunningly romantic and beautiful... but not possible on someone of my size and shape, sadly.

I don't think your dress looks like the original post at all! Your dress is so gorgeous; the lace is tastefully done and covers most of the bodice. Beautiful!

My reception dress is partially see-through. I think Berta and Galia Lahav do it the best!

I agree. These styles can be pretty, I'm not opposed to them, but you definitely want a nude color cup or even an entire nude layer underneath.

Wow, I don’t mind sheer or illusion tops but the obvious cups of the original dress posted here are soooo not my thing.

I would be too embarrassed. Revealing and sexy wedding dresses are not my style. I couldn’t feel comfortable wearing a see through gown.
