I'm a nurse and we work 12 hour (more like 13-14 some days) shifts. We get 40 hours of vacation a year, and we are also able to accumulate PTO if we are on time, come to mandatory meetings, and don't call in throughout the year (40 more hours in total). I'm a nurse and we work 12 hour (more like 13-14 some days) shifts. We get 40 hours of vacation a year, and we are also able to accumulate PTO if we are on time, come to mandatory meetings, and don't call in throughout the year (40 more hours in total). I haven't taken a any PTO or vacation days since either of the renewal times. I saved them all for this month and requested a total of 9 days off work, my 5 vacation days, and 4 PTO days. But since we work 12s, this evens out to a total of 3 weeks off of work. My time was approved by my boss and everything, she knows I'm getting married and having a honeymoon, but some of the other nurses are acting sort of snarky towards me now. Just making random comments when I say or do something. "Well, you're about to get 3 weeks off so I don't know why it matters" "Well if I was going to be off 3 weeks I'd think so too" "Oh she doesn't care, she's about to be gone a whole month". Those kind of comments. I feel like people are mad at me.(Continue)

I'm a nurse too! I say take off your whole three weeks. They'll survive and be fine for three weeks. I'm sure staffing won't suffer too much from one person being off. Enjoy your vacation!

ETA: We have a nurse at work who is going home to Poland for the next three weeks, and people are jealous but they'll get over it lol.

If your boss ok'd it - it is their responsibility to coordinate vacation time. Don't even worry about it - they're jealous. Shit! I would be toooo! Enjoy those three weeks! Being a nurse is hardcore, so I say, you deserve it.

Oh well do you think if they had something going on they would think about anyone else and how they felt NOPE take your days off and enjoy your 3 week vacation.

ENJOY YOUR TIME OFF! You earned it and deserve it! I used to always have so much PTO accrued because I felt guilty taking off and coworkers would make comments when I took time off, so I never wanted to deal with it. ive come to realize it's just jealousy and they do not consider my life/schedule/things I want to do when they plan vacations. If it was approved, it's not their place to make remarks to you and it's not your responsibility to find coverage. Once again, enjoy your wedding and honeymoon and don't let anyone make it less exciting for you!
