What does the hostess do 🤔😥 I’m choosing my sister to be a hostess but I think she should be the star of the show (besides the brides) and she asked for details and I don’t know what to say 🥺tenor.gif

Hostess of what? The bridal shower, the wedding itself?

How do you mean that she's the hostess? Do you mean that she's planning the wedding? Is it at her house? Is she your maid of honor?

The couple getting married are the hosts of the wedding day. They decide who is invited to celebrate. They also make sure all guests are comfortable from the time that save the dates/invitations go out until the thank you cards are sent. This includes making sure that guests are fed properly appropriate for the time of day/night when the reception is held, guests do not open their wallets at the reception, there is no gap between ceremony and reception for any reason beyond driving time, significant others are invited as a package deal and listed by name without judgement of whether their relationship is valid if they have only been together 3 months or 10 years with no desire to become engaged first.

Guys i think the OP means an MC (master of ceremonies) which can typically be done by a close friend/relative. They handle introductions, speeches, announcements and coordinate. Look up wedding MC and you should be able to find tons of info!

Ohh gotcha. Thank you. Never even occurred to me that this was a thing but it makes sense if there's not a wedding coordinator.
I don't think the hostess should be the star of the show. It seems like this role is to make sure everything goes smoothly so that the couple can be the star of the show and not stress about anything. As far as details, she needs to know how you want the evening to go... Your timeline, who you want to make speeches, your first dance, etc. She's basically in charge of executing your plan for the wedding

On the south, we use the term house party for people that help coordinate the day. They make sure the appetizers are out and stocked, help with cleanup, etc.

Whoever is paying for the wedding is the host. Not sure what you’re referring to here. I’m also not sure why she would be the star of the show…at your wedding…? If you want to give her some spotlight, she should be a bridesmaid or MOH.

Hostess? Is she paying for and hosting the wedding?
If you’re referring to an MC as a PP mentioned, typically your DJ does that.

I think this is a southern US tradition in which the "hostess" is a sort of unpaid day of coordinator. Greets guests, makes sure things run on times, handles problems etc.
