Sending Invitations for People Who Cannot Make It?

Sarah, on May 2, 2023 at 2:23 PM Posted in Planning 0 3
My Save the Dates and my shower invitations are being delivered and one of the guests just texted letting me know she regrettably cannot come to either.
Am I still supposed to send her the formal invitation? I’ve gone ahead and RSVP’d for her on the website.

You'll hear advice both ways. Some say go ahead and send an invitation since circumstances can change that far ahead of time. Others feel that it's like asking for presents or that you should consider sending only to those who are very close and might appreciate having the invitation as a keepsake and not to anyone who has already told you they can't attend.

Since wedding invitations are about extending an offer of hospitality, not a gift grab, I don't see an issue with sending them.

    Makes sense, thank you!
In this specific circumstance she said she will be out of the state on a long vacation from May 24th - a month after my wedding, so she won’t even be home when she’d receive the invite. So with your advice it’s probably not worthwhile to send it as I feel that it’d be a bit weird for her to come home and see it in the mail (something I hadn’t even realized until now haha)

Do you genuinely want her in attendance if she didn’t have other plans? Unless someone is toxic and you need to cut them out of your life, you need to send an invitation after a save the date. Anything is possible and she may be able to attend, but by not sending the invitation you are sending the message that you don’t want her there.
