Sensitive skin and make up issues!

Danielle, on May 3, 2020 at 10:12 PM Posted in Hair and Makeup 0 13
My FH has a groomsmen who’s GF works at a very nice salon and they do bridal work. Since most of my bridal party would rather do their own hair and make up, she’s willing to do both my hair and make up for free, and the trails for free too. That saves us a good couple of hundred because I almost never wear make up so I definitely need a trail. Given the fact that she’s doing it for free... she won’t have access to everything they usually do. She has some stuff in bulk for personal use for events like this but there’s a few things she will need me to have. I believe foundation, eyeliner, lipstick and she has eyeshadow pallets and blush and bronzer and setting sprays and she does have disposable wands for mascara. One issue I have is I have very sensitive skin and it’s some type of dermatitis that is definitely made worse with many ingredients. My skin becomes red and itchy and flaky and my eyes, they just turn so red people would have thought I smoked a pound of the best weed ever. So needless to say make up is uncomfortable and I don’t use it much. When I do I don’t get the results I want which I’m sure is me not knowing a whole lot about make up but basically I’m trying to figure out a foundation, eyeshadow and eyeliner that is free of most stuff that causes the allergies and may be more fitted for my skin conditions. I would like to find a mascara too that is good for just enhancing them as many people already think I have fake lashes and most mascara clumps easily even when using the brush the remove clumps, probably because I have very full long eyelashes. I also have a couple of health issues that cause malnutrition and dehydration which is not helpful as far as lip stick or getting make up to sit correctly. Does anyone have any experience with this stuff and can recommend some brands I can try to see how my skin reacts so at my trial I will gave the basic stuff I need and know it’s okay on my skin so we don’t have to do a billion trails since she’s doing all this for free?!

Your dermatologist would better be able to advise you what ingredients to be on the lookout to avoid in makeup. Particularly for foundations.

I second Kimberly. After speaking to your dermatologist, I would then maybe either speak to the GF or go to Sephora and ask what kinds of products fit the parameters that your dermatologist gave you.

I already have a list of stuff I should try to avoid. I go through ulta. It's just hard to get a exact brand from most make up stores but they will say they cant really say which ones better then another because even when it comes to sensitive skin, brands meant for that will be different for everyone and it's hard trying to test a bunch of foundations and usually in store they will sample it on like your face or hand to see how it feels and looks but its not on long enough or a complete coverage for very long to tell how it sits and feels long term. I have tried some brands and it seems awesome when sampled but then doing full coverage when i want to for a day or so, it ends up not being anything like what was sampled. I could get a professional application at ulta for 60$ but im not trying to break the bank trying to figure out what will be best for my wedding day.

Take this from someone who never wears makeup and only bought a leave-in conditioner at Ulta once, but I remember them mentioning something about being able to return a used product within a certain amount of time if only a certain percentage was used. While testing things out the hard way isn't ideal, I can't really think of any way around buying something, testing it out for a day's wear and either bringing it back to repeat or get lucky.

I will have to check into that once they open up. Considering i dont wear make up much, let alone ever have it done by a pro, It's a big deal for me because i dont even dress up because my chronic illness restricts my life alot so him seeing me all dressed up with my hair and make up done by a pro is something he has never seen and he will be so amazed so thats why it's that important to me but it took me like over 200$ to find something for my skin that didn't completely cause major issues i was having

That’s the blessings of trials! I have supper sensitive skin as well and honestly most makeup artists will ask a few questions regarding your skin before the entire process. Also depending your shade is very common for brides to buy their own foundation and powder for the day of the wedding. Specially if you don’t wear a lot of makeup regularly it will be important to try a couple of brands and shades. Some brands oxidize after the application, which means that the color changes a few minutes after applying it. If you do end up shopping for one I’d recommend a brand made with natural ingredients. I love Tarte makeup, but there are many other brands with full coverage and natural ingredients.

Tarte is one of the brands the doctor said was okay. Their products are usually like vegan and free of most things that irritate skin. It was a long list and i found that there weren't many brands when looking online that were almost free of everything. I know the oxidizing thing because i learned the hard way with Urban Decay foundation which ended up being a waste because it was just so heavy and irritating and would cake up and flake and settle into lines and just its like it didn't blend in but you could clearly see the make up under the setting spray and iv had this issue with most brands. I've tried clinque fit since its liquid and is good with oil and stuff and its okay but not a huge fan. I was looking at MAC too which had some stuff made with most natural ingredients. Is there anything in particular from tarte that was helpful? I've seen a few different kinds that have more natural ingredients. Also i guess a cream eye shadow would probably work better since i get flakes on my eyelids and its a lot harder to properly moisture eyelids sometimes, is what I was told. also that it blends better and doesn't crease as bad?

Okay so I had to write it down because I don’t even know half these words but this is the stuff to stay away from he said non-comedogenic and vegan. Talic free, alcohol free... fragrance, silicone, parabens, sulfates, synthetic dyes, phthalates, dimethicone, talc, bismuth oxychloride, and nanoparticles. I don’t even know half those words. And plant-based squalene

The other day I tried on some Clinique matte sweat proof fit foundation I had bought to use sometimes. It was extremely Liquidity which I didn’t like but it did seem to last a good while before I was greasy and stuff so Clinique is good sometimes! I’m looking up the other brand you mentioned now!
