September 2020 Wedding

Racquel, on May 11, 2020 at 11:47 AM Posted in Community Conversations 0 8
Help!!! Our wedding is scheduled for September of 2020 and we are still anxiously awaiting whether that can happen or not. I am in my final year of Medical School therefore I do not have the luxury to reschedule my date. We were thinking to have the wedding but cut down the guest list to only immediate family and first cousins as we are both a part of large Italian families. And suggestions as to if I should disinvite people and how would I go about doing that. Would it be rude to cut down our list from 200 to 100 by only including close family and friends?

Please help!

Considering The Current Circumstances, I Don't Think It Would Be Rude To Tell Your Family That Due To COVID19 And State Restrictions, That You Had To Cut Down The Guest List.

They Should Be Understanding Of That.

I Do Recommend That If Cutting The List Is What Happens, To Invite Those Who Were Cut To Watch The Ceremony Virtually So They Don't Feel Excluded.

I feel your pain. I am MS2 and I won't be able to have a bridal shower due to the size of my family.

I saw a post for someone who had a virtual wedding shower where everyone sent the gifts to the brides house and then she opened them in front of everyone on zoom! An idea? Goodluck

    Hi Racquel,

I'm so sorry you are going through this. While this is definitely an uncertain time, it seems like plenty of September couples are waiting to make postponement decisions. Of course, everyone's situation is different, so it never hurts to be proactive about plan B!

You also aren't alone right now! Have you considering having immediate family at your wedding and live streaming to your guests? I've also heard of people having "drive by" bridal/couple showers. Guests can drive by your house and drop off wedding gifts! There are many resources on our website to help you navigate the serious decision to postpone your wedding: Our COVID-19 Weddings Advice Guide.Hope this helps!

This may be a rebellious question but how enforceable is the 50 guest cap limit (if that indeed is the limit at the time we get married)? Will the authorities/cops be notified if say you have 85-95 ppl instead of 50? In that case, maybe we can get creative and have half the reception indoors, half the reception outdoors. So technically it's two events with almost 50 ppl each. Just trying to think outside the box here so we don't have to sacrifice our guest list here...

I'm also a September 2020 bride (9/26) and my fiance Smiley ring and I are holding out until the end of July to make a decision. The unfortunate thing is that we paid in full already since our all-inclusive venue requires it. The tricky thing is I live in LA county and most of our guests do too, but our venue is in another county in California and have easing restrictions. I don't know if many of my guests will attend a wedding because of the restrictions we have here in LA. I guess we will have to see how the summer plays out.

To top it off, I haven't been able to do any wedding dress shopping. Are any of you guys in this situation? If so, are you guys looking to rent or buy online?

Thinking of all of you during this time of uncertainty! Smiley heart
