September 2025 Wedding - When to Send Save The Dates?

Lauren, on August 29, 2023 at 10:07 AM Posted in Planning 1 8
My fiancé and I are getting married September 20, 2025, but we have a lot of my family coming to America from England and they would need to save to make it possible to come. Is it ridiculous to send the save-the-dates in Spring 2024? Or is that that far too early?

I want to point everyone toward the wedding website with info for flights, hotels, etc. so they at least have info to prepare and book ahead of time!
Thoughts?

Far too early. That’s likely too early to book travel anyway. There’s a general rule of thumb for save the dates, but for me, the key is: AFTER the date has passed in the previous year. So for Sept 25, anytime after Sept 24 is reasonable. If you send in spring of 24, you’ll have people confused that the wedding is *that* September, and it will be more headache than helpful.

If there are some people you want to make sure have extra time for advanced planning, just mention the dates and plans to them directly.

Don’t send them earlier than 12 months before regardless of their location. Same when invitations are sent before the traditional standard 6-8 weeks, they will get lost in the shuffle and people will forget the information. We had a few overseas guests and still let them know no earlier than 12 months and they made every effort to attend without obligation or hassle. Even in a conversation with one, they asked why would they be sent so early and that it would come across to them as an obligatory invitation rather than actually wanting them to attend.

Too early. I agree with PPs and would add that if your wedding would require saving for well over a year in order to attend then those people can’t really afford the trip in the first place. There shouldn’t be that added level of pressure that they had all that time to save and so why aren’t they coming. I’d spread the word on timing to VIPs by word of mouth only.

My fiancé and I are getting married in Aug 2025. We don’t have out of country guests but I think anything more than a year is too far. Maybe mention to those out of the country that you would love for them to be there. I’m sure they would get the idea to plan accordingly.

Too early. People will get confused and think the wedding is in September of 2024, not 2025.

Yes, I think you should be sending them the information it’s for the bookings of the hotels and airlines. That way they can start paying on it now and be in a safe environment and also be able to afford to come to your wedding. also you should only send it to the people who live far away. That way they could start paying for it and to say to travel that way they’ll have extra money in their pockets as well. .once again good luck. congratulations-wedding.gif

Thank you all for the insight! Definitely and super helpful and ensures I’m not sending save the dates way in advance Smiley smile will probably send them January 2024!
