September brides!! more white or more red wine??

OregonGirl, on August 23, 2016 at 9:48 AM Posted in Planning 0 8

I'm giving the final beer and wine numbers this week. We are thinking 40-50 bottles of wine for 110 guests (we have 2 kegs of beer too). Is that too much? Also what about white to red ratio for Mid September? I am a white in the summer and red in the winter girl myself! If it's hot I will be drinking the Chardonnay!

I'm not positive on the bottle-guest ratio, but my FH says you'd get roughly 160-200 glasses of wine out of those many bottles. He works at a fine-dining restaurant and they just had a lesson in wine etiquette yesterday; I asked him about the ratio and he was excited to share his knowledge with me.

As for reds vs whites, go 50/50. Not everyone likes reds, not everyone likes whites; don't favor one over the other in quantity.

Jay is spot on, glass wise. I keep hearing that red is becoming more popular than white, and if you offer beef, many people who drink both might choose that, but I'd probably go half and half too. However, here's a thought too....big trend now? Roses....you might add a few of those too. It used to be thought of as screaming tacky, but apparently not any more.

You should get 4-5 glasses of wine per bottle. So if you do 50 bottles, that would be 200-250. That's enough for everyone to have two glasses. . . depending on your crowd, do you think people will have more than that?

I think the white/red ratio depends on the food you're serving and which will go better with the meal.

We are having beer too, so I'd say half of the people or less will be drinking wine- so like 50-55 people. I'm thinking 40 bottles though contemplating 50 just to be safe. I love rose but will probably skip it to keep it simple and so as not to run out of one.

When we took a look at our guest list and thought about the people that would drink wine we realized that most of them were white wine drinkers. So we got a little bit more white wine than we did red. You know your guests best but if you really aren't sure I would just go 50/50.

I imagine it will be 50/50 for us too, unless the menu selection clearly indicates otherwise.

I drink red wine all year regardless of food or weather.

I like a sweet red, so I'd take that any time of the year. A lot of people I know will drink a rose today, like Celia suggested. If you do favor one over another I'd say slightly more red...but you can't go wrong with a blush or chardonnay.
