September engagement party? - nj brides

Mary, on July 12, 2020 at 3:09 PM Posted in New Jersey Planning 0 3

Hello everyone! me and my fiancé got engaged in February and decided to have an engagement party to celebrate with our friends and family. originally it was supposed to be june 1st but we had to postpone it due to covid 19. our new date is september 28, but I'm alittle weary about if we can even have that! we promised the venue 150 people. Originally indoor dining was supposed to open july 2nd but our governor changed his mind on that due to the rising cases of covid 19 in other states. There was been no word on when they will allow indoor dining (my venue falls into place of the indoor dining category) so I'm not really sure if we should postpone again or what? I didnt even buy an outfit yet because I'm scared it won't happen. I need atleast a months notice if our party will happen because i need to order a dress and alter it if necessary (engagement parties are a big deal in my culture) My engagement will be pretty big, so my question is are you ladies going through with your august or september wedding? I'm just so nervous because we don't wana wait it out too long for news about reopening then come to find out september is a no go... then we have the issue of rescheduling... will there be any other dates available ? because i know a ton of people are postponing :/ I'm so nervous someone help me out here lol

I also got engaged this winter and have an engagement party scheduled for September. My party was supposed to be pretty big as well. I haven't reached out to our restaurant yet because I know they fall under indoor dining. If we can't go through with it due to state restrictions, I think we will unfortunately be skipping the engagement party and maybe using the deposit for a bridal shower at a later date if the restaurant allows. Sorry this isn't much of a solution-I hope we get to have our engagement parties!

I'm so sorry Mary, this is a really tough time! Smiley heart

Are most of your guests local? Or would any be flying in? If it's mainly local guests I'd consider waiting about a month before your engagement party to make a final decision, but if you have lots of guests planning travel I understand if they'd need more advance warning!

Here are a few discussions for August & September NJ weddings you can check out for advice:

IDK how close you ladies are to Northeast but PA offers indoor dining and has some really nice venues for engagement parties, bridal showers, etc. I just attended my cousin's bridal shower last week. We, fortunately, have a big backyard and that's where we did ours last September. But, I would consider hopping across the bridge.

I did read that the governor is supposed to start allowing indoor dining and allowing for private "constitutional right" events at a certain capacity (i.e. weddings)
    Good luck!!
